Bicycle Mechanics - replacement skewer questions

I just got a set of hb-5500 105 hubs. They did not come with skewers and I am lost on what size I need front and rear. I have looked on the shimano website but I can't make sense of the specs to figure this out.

Skewers are sold based on the over-locknut width (or dropout width) of the hub they fit ie. 126mm, 130mm, 135mm, etc. They're actually longer than that to account for the thickness of the dropouts. There's usually latitude to go 5 or o millimeters, so the same 135mm skewer may be used on both 135 and 130mm hubs, except some may stick out past the end of the nut.

You could get some that fit with a wrench,
and slow down someone looking for a wheel to QR and take.

HB-5500 was a 9 speed group so any 8, 9 or 10 speed road skewer should work. The over lock nut dimension should be 130mm on the rear and and like most hubsets the front will be 100mm. I believe the actual skewer length will be around 133mm for the front and 163mm for the rear. And as long as there is enough thread a mtb set will work but the rear will stick out a bit.

Go to any bike shop and ask for a pair of front and rear quick release skewers. Tell them they are road hubs (130 mm rear OLD spacing) and you will get exactly what you need. Avoid the "boutique" skewers with Ti shafts and external cams which are both pricey and not very secure. Ask for a pair of Shimano-type (aka internal cam) skewers and you should be set.
