Classic & Vintage - Revell bikes

Anybody know much about them? This one (http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/bik/2848111185.html) popped up on the local CL and it got me to do a little research, without too much success. It sounds like a house brand for a London shop and it had several companies building for them, Mercian being the best recognized by me.

With 531c, is this a very high end model?

If someone is really interested, I can possibly facilitate. I am just curious about it, since I have never heard of them.

Given the era, Cyclone group and full 531C, I'd consider it lower, upper end.

Thanks T-Mar! I wasn't sure if they were sold as frameset or as entire bikes, so I didn't know what to think of the Cyclone group. I also know virtually nothing about various Reynolds tubing.

Which reminds me - some Revell kits were bottom of the barrel in the casting quality department.

I don't know anything about Revell bikes. But I do know that bike is screaming for some white (or maybe black) handlebar tape.

Revell cheaped out often, three part bodies, while AMT and Monogram and others molded one pc units, with thicker wall thickness.
They also cheaped out on tires, cast in two halves.... grumble.
They DID however, give more attention to their airplane kits, and Deals Wheels...
Molded cartoons. Had great fun building those.

You have to admit it though, Most of us started with Revell kits when we were kids as they were affordable for the size models you get. So it was a lot of bang for the buck for kid modelers like me who was not too concerned about detailing quality.. I still remember how much fun I had building and playing with my 1:32 scale P51B, P38, P47, B24 Liberator. Plus the Cutty Sark, USS Arizona ship models I got in the 70's

Ah revell... memories. My dad took me to a model builders' show in the national air museum, and us little kids (ages 6-99) could build our very own messerschmidt at one of the tables. I spent a good part of my childhood sniffing glue :)

Reminds me of my Revell Herbie at left (technically a converted Barris Rolls VW kit - never did find the right bumpers). A lousy kit in comparison to Tamiya's later '66 bug:

The first film, I take it. Rides Again was a childish joke, Monte Carlo was good only for the vehicles and racing scenes (the dialogue and acting was nothing short of embarrassing - with exception to Bernard Fox), and Bananas was a flop. I don't accept Fully Loaded as a Herbie film.
