I really like the idea of an art project going along with a bicycle tour. I think that is great. But I really fail to see the difference in what you are doing as opposed to someone else that is doing a tour, and a journal that focuses on, say food. I guess the only difference that I see is that you want others to pay for your trip rather than paying for it yourself. Am I missing something? I do wish you all the best as I am sure there are lots of people out their that would like to help you pay for your vacation.

The project is something like a food-themed touring journal, but it is more than that. We are raising money to create well-produced, multi-media pieces and a community art project.

If by "paying for it ourselves" means working for our money, then we are certainly doing that. Writing, processing media, web development, etc. – it is all honest work. The only difference between our work and the work you mean is that we developed the project ourselves and have eliminated the middle man (traditionally, the company).

Kickstarter allows musicians, artists, product designers, etc. to directly connect to their audience. In exchange for a pledge, backers receive rewards; a "product" so to speak. Like any product, if you feel it's not worth your money, you don't have to buy it.

To be frank, the time it took to create the project, produce the small amount of content we have, and promote it has been hundreds of hours of effort. We haven't even started the project or fulfilled the rewards we promised. By the time we are done, we will have earned much less than minimum wage per hour. But, that is enough. We just need time to do our work.

Of course a trip of this length costs much more money than what we are asking. We are paying for "the vacation" in the traditional way – we worked jobs, lived frugally, saved money, sold our stuff.

In the end, we hope to contribute something valuable.
