hi, I'll be riding in Ojai next weekend and am thinking of including this road. I saw a few web posts on it, but was wondering how this ride is on weekends. Does that route get a lot of weekend traffic, motorcycles etc.? Is the first tunnel safe to ride without a light? Water along the way? Thanks for any info!

not a lot of traffic, mostly motorcycles
don't think the tunnel is that long, maybe turn on a taillight if you've got one
don't know if there is any water along the way, maybe at wolf's inn at the top, not sure if it's open

They're calling for some (a little) snow on the Pine Mtn. side possibly tonight and possibly Wednesday. Hope this doesn't mess with you too much.

Goes through Rose Valley after Wheeler Gorge and that is a wonderful streatch of road. No water that I have ever been able to find. I do this as part of the Sea to Summit that goes from Ventura to Mt Pinos. This time of year you might be able to make it as far as Pine Mt. on 2 large bottles. Wolfs Inn has never been open when I have been past there. The sign "opening soon" has been there forever. This is a really nice ride, go as far as you can but I wouldn't go past Pine Mtn without water and food.
There is water at the Ozena fire station (outdoor spigot); which is just before the right turn to Lockwood Valley...assuming you climbed through Hwy 33 from Ojai. There is a ranger station less than two miles after the tunnels at Wheeler Gorge; they sell water and some snacks. It's about 30 miles between these two. Take a 72oz camelbak. Also be careful for icy roads this time of year.
