Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - which frame to buy?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
today i went to ny bike works, i saw a rush soma frame $450.whick would be a better buy, the soma or a debernardi?and whats the difference in chainring pitch 3/16 and a 1/8, is this the space between each teeth-chainring or is it the width of the chain, and which should i buy ?

dunno about which frame to get, it depends on a whole bunch of factors; riding style, personal aesthetics, und so weiter...
as for pitch, what you're talking about is actually width (chain pitch is the distance between rollers, see here http://www.sheldonbrown.com/gloss_p.html#pitch for more info). 1/8" chains are used on bmx bikes and lots of true track bikes, while 3/32" is used on most road bikes.
unless you're an absolute monster you should be fine with 3/32" for road riding.

3/16 is that super thick bmx tank tread chain.
chain width has nothing to do with durability. There are 3/32 chains that are easily as strong as 1/8 chains. A lot of track racers use the 3/32 these days because it is lighter. However, the 1/8 looks better in my opinion. Also, a 3/32 drive train will most likely cost less than an 1/8.
