Bicycle Mechanics - Dimension 1 inch disc cross fork. Anyone using one?

What's the steerer tube ID? Will a quill stem fit?

I wouldn't expect it to, but I'd love to know before I buy one.

It should be 22.2mm (7/8"). But I thought Dimension primarily makes only theadLESS fork steerer for the disc brake hybrid 700c fork. I've only seen 1 inch threaded with cantilever posts. It should fit a road quill stem but that's not what we did for my wife's bike. After my last experience trying to thread a spanking new Tange Prestige fork w/ 1 inch steerer, I wore out the Park FTS-1 24 tpi cutting die and had to spend more money to buy a new one. For her bike, I got a 1 inch low-end threadless headset and got a shim for the 1 inch steerer above the headset. The shim is slotted so when clamped, it compresses and grabs the steerer really tight. Then standard 1 1/8th inch stems, washers, etc. just fit (except for the star nut which is for 1 inch steerers). But that makes for much easier tuning and adjustment than a threaded headset or quill stem. I adjust everything practically with a single 5mm allen key. No 6 mm allen, then dual 32mm headset wrench, or worrying about exact spacer height and insufficient threads on the headset lock ring, etc.

A quill stem should fit but you won't be running one unless the fork is threaded. New fork, why bother? Just get a cheap 1" threadless headset and 1" stem (or 1 1/8" stem with a shim) and enjoy.

Because the steeerer tube isn't long enough to replicate the handlebar postition I currently have with a Technomic stem. And I've seen 1" threadless steerers that would accept a quill stem.

My plan would be to install a threadless headset with a clamp-on cyclocross cable stop to preload the headset. If that wouldn't prove to be strong enough, I suppose a cut and filed smooth junk stem would accomplish the same with a stronger hold. Then I could use a non-Technomic lengthed quill stem in the uncut steerer tube.

That's why I want to know if anyone who has the fork can tell me what the ID is or if a quill will fit.

I'm going to have a spare 1" cyclocross fork with canti mounts and a disc tab. it's got good steer tube length. let me know what your budget is and if you can hold off for a couple weeks. I can get you a steer tube length, if you're interested.

They do sell stem extenders for threadless setups that achieve what a Nitto Technomic provides. You can also purchase stems that have a faster rise angle.
