Classic & Vintage - Cyclometers...Avocet?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

In a former life I always rode with an Avocet Cyclometer. It was small, light, simple and accurate. I've done some hunting and it looks like they no longer make them. Any suggestions for a newer cyclometer with the above traits that doesn't look like you're hanging a spaceship on your handlebars?
Lewis, Another option, if you can find one is the Vetta C-15. I've also had a Trek branded unit that wasn't too large.

Cateye Mity 8 -- small, simple, bulletproof, cheap
Hmm, I'm getting to the point where I need larger displays.

A few local stores still have Avocet's on the shelf, not in ideal colors but I can faciltate for you.
I concur with everyone else, the Cateye Mity 8 is fine unit and it's what I use on my bikes.

I use no-name computers. I got a couple from Nashbar, and I've been buying them from suntekstore.com and dealextreme.com lately. Those last two companies mail from Hong Kong. The wired computers are about $6, and the wireless are about $15. The wired ones display temperature as well as the usual statistics.
While I liked the Mity series too, I thought it had been discontinued?

Wow, that little one from suntekstore looks a lot like the old Avocet. I might try one...and at <$6.00 I can experiment.
Still many Avocet cyclometer fans out there, as many have survived on C&V bikes and continue to work.
Really no reason not to consider the new computers out there as suggested, only reason to stay with the Avocet is to keep a C&V bike as period correct as possible, so it's mainly a nostalgia/aesthetic thing.
I have an Avocet 20 on a 84 Peugeot (Its been on the bike for over 20 years and still works perfectly) and have used a new VDO with full features, inculding cadence on an 85 Vitus. So going to new computers doesn't bother me.
Avocets still pop up once in a while in both used and NOS condition, so it's not impossible to get them if you really want to. but as you noted, there had been lots of mostly cheaper clones out there to consider too.

Are these the ones you are looking for? I have two of them that have been sitting in a drawer collecting dust for years. It needs a battery, but I'm willing to part with one of them if you want it. PM me your shipping info and which color you want and it'll be on it's way.

Any 45tt ones left?
Those are my favorite. They have the TT function, but they also have very accurate internal clocks....
