Foo - Who knows about bloggers?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I actually created a blogger, but I am not really knowledgeable about them. If anyone knows a lot about bloggers, if you could drop me a PM so I could talk to you privately, that would really be great. I could also give you access to my blogger- it's about fitness and weight management.

What the hell is a "blog"?:p
I gather it's some sort of bio, but why "blog"?

It's a short form of 'Web log'

I set up and run my own bloghost for myself and my friends. I'm using MovableType (free unrestricted version - 2.661). Let me know if I can be of help.

I use wordpress on my blog. I've not messed with MT, but I must say I absolutely love wordpress, especially the newest 1.3 version that's in alpha testing. Link is in my sig. I did have a "blogger" prior to discovering the joys of WP. :)

This triggered my memory - there was a slashdot article on some issues with MT and spam:

If I started one of those i would post like two then forget about it, forever. They seem cool though.
Mine is very boring, and linked in my sig. Need to do a re-design on the look of it. I prefer typing to writing, so it's good. I need to see how to connect and download the posts so I still have the posts I've made if I cut it out. I like having a record of my thoughts from day to day. Because I have no short-term memory to speak of, or long-term for that matter.

I've got one going (see my signature) and use Serendipity (http://www.s9y.org) as the blogging software. Granted I've owned my own domain since 1996 and had space for a while that wasn't being used.
The question I would ask you, koffee, is do you want to be altering it and coding it yourself or do you want someone else to manage it? (that is, worry about software updates, blog design updates, etc.)? Do you have webspace or do you need space? If you are willing to do simple coding which scripting language would you use -- perl (very common) or php (getting there)?
I have no idea what you just said, Ms. Mittens...
That's how little I know about bloggers. :(

ROFL.
But if you're going to do geek code, do it right:
-----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK-----
Version: 3.1
GB/CS/CM/G/IT/O d()>$ s(-):(+) a C(+++)$@ UBLSC(++++)$@ P+(--) L(+++)$@ E(---) W(+++)$@ N(+++)$@ !o !K-- w(---) !O M(++)$@ !V>$ PS(+)@ PE(-)@ Y(++)$@ PGP()@ t(+)@ 5(++)@ X(++)@ !R tv(+)@ b(+++)$@ DI(+++) D(++)@ G()@ e(++)$@ h()@ r(++)@ x(+++)@
------END GEEK CODE BLOCK------
You can decode it here.. http://www.ebb.org/ungeek/ :D
My head hurts.

Yep... I'm getting some bit of server load due to blogspam. However, I'm using MT-Blacklist for filtering which works pretty well on lower-volume blogsites and dramatically cuts down the spam. One thing I did was write a little wrapper around anything that is MT related to lower its priority and insert a scheduling knob. This allows me to control its impact on my Solaris systems.

I built mine up using Sheldon Brown's HTML tips for page adjustments, etc. The cool thing is that you can preview changes. If you want, create a "test" blog where you just mess around with the template, etc. That way you become familiar with changes and very basic code.
http://sheldonbrown.com/computer-net_links.html
and then play with the TEMPLATE setting.
I, of course, have assumed you are using www.blogger.com.

khoun... PM sent... nice blog
Thanks. I responded. :)
To be honest, I don't blog as much as I could. Sometimes I'll get inspired to write something but oftentimes it goes for months without seeing a new entry. I have however been tempted to scrounge through all of my posts in BikeForums and pick out ones that really don't lead or respond to a particular discussion to regurgitate into blog material. :D

I started pulling old stories off my old personal website and recycling them into blog posts just to keep it updated.
Today, because it is so f'in' slow at work, I was able to type for almost an hour on a post to my blog.
My blog is not really ready to go quite yet, but I think it will be up in the next three weeks. I'm putting up a website that will promote the blogger for my members, and I'd rather have it all out there at the same time.
Thanks to everyone for their contributions. I'm in a hurry today and traveling tomorrow, so I won't be able to say a lot about this now, but I'll check in a few days and give some more info out.

I just put my new blog up today... with lots of content...

koffee brown, is your homepage indeed a site promoting products that feature the excrements of Australian animals?
Dood, that's a site someone else put together I found on the internet. That was back when my avatar was of a tassie devil. Forgot to change it when the avatar changed, though.... It'll be gone soon when my real website gets finished.

I run my blog with MT, which I will be updating to the most recent build once I get around to figuring out how to configure my mysql server, which is like trying to read 4-point cyrillic type from across a football field in a midnight snowstorm for me since I sort of suck at that sort of thing. Still, MT is excellent and versatile. I've had to disable comments completely until I get the version of MT updated and can implement anti-spam measures.
My post activity varies, but these days I seem to be posting aplenty. Lots of stream-of-consciousness type writing and occasional rational posts where I state things like opinions, logical discourse on prticular subject matter, and blocks of text that actually make sense to other people.
It's linked in that line of text in my sig that changes about once a week.
Sorry, still getting the Tasmanian Devil Poo Products homepage.
Sorry, the blog is in my SIGNATURE. I should change my home page too... I guess Tassie poo just isn't that funny anymore. Well, actually... it still is, but I changed my avatar a long time ago.
Check my signature (it's in the text box just below where I sign my name, just in case).
