Dick Lane Velodrome in Atlanta has announced 2 training classes for March. These 2-day classes are preferred over the other format which is 4 Thursdays in a row.
We'll be running two weekend beginners classes this spring before our regular season activities get under way. We'll be running a Womens only class on the 10th and 11th of March and an open class on the 24th and 25th of March. Both classes will run from 2pm till 5pm each day. As always our most excellent coach Brian will be heading those classes up, and we are hoping to have a special guest or two for our Women's only class as well. More details over at the Beginner page: http://www.dicklanevelodrome.com/pages/beginnerprogram.html

Sweet!
I gotta head to REI or something to get some bike shorts or something... I literally have no bike gear.

Are you running it carleton?
If so what does the outline of the day look like and do you have any print outs or materials to hand out? Here in St. Louis we have a really informal track, but are trying to get a better experience for our intro classes in a few months.

No, I don't run it. But, I've helped out a bit. Here's what I can recall:
- Show up, get setup on a rental bike that fits.
- Explain how fixed gears work
- Hand out a diagram of the track and explain the markings
- Explain etiquette, dos, don'ts, and never ever...
- Take the riders up a few at a time (follow the leader). Our track is steep, so this is necessary.
- Weaving left/right to get a feel for the track.
- Riding along with a partner to learn to hold a line and be close to someone
- Pace line
- High speed (actually moderate speed) solo effort to feel what it's like to go fast.
- Mock races (most everyone is on a 48/16 so no one is going really fast)
I probably missed some stuff, but that's most of it.
Thats pretty close to what we ran last year, except for the riding close to some one part. I have been thinking we need more individual teaching, which could also be acomplished with that exersize.

Yeah I had read that... not making a big investment in stuff. But I don't want to show up in cargo shorts or khakis :D I'll at least get some bike shorts :)

The answer is probably no but I will ask any way. Is there a possibility that this training would be allowed to be carried over to another track?

What do you mean?
Your certification will likely be accepted at another track. But, it depends on your track's director. But, generally, on a 250M, you'll likely need some 250M-specific instructions. But, that stuff is minor. Usually info like minimum speed, etc...
So, in short, ask your track director.

Yes I was referring to the certification. I was considering attending the DLV classes , but perhaps it would be better to wait and attend at the Giordana velodrome when it gets up and running. Thanks

I know it's getting a little late in the year but is the DLV planning any 2 day certification classes any time in the near future? If so I plan on taking some time off work and heading down. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure. You'll have to go to the website and email someone at the address listed.
