Classic & Vintage - How to identify pre or post 2001 Ergo levers, or does it matter?

I have Campy Chorus levers in the post '97 style. I'm aware they changed internally for 2001, but I can't see any external identifiers to differentiate pre 2001 from later. How is this done?

All of my drive side components are '97-99 9-speed Record TI, and I understand it is desirable to have pre-2001 levers.

I've searched BF and elsewhere and can easily find how the insides are different, but not how to ID them.

I don't know. To me, 9sp is 9sp, but I've never had any 9-sp Campy.

If you're dealing with 9s it's not an issue. If you're dealing with 10s, then you need to shim the rear derailleur and change pulleys and/or change the index in the shifters.

All Campi 10 speed are the later ('01+) cable pull. All 9s Record and Chorus are pre '01 older cable pull. Other groups, 9s may be pre or post.

Correct. You start to get a headache when you are trying to find out whether Veloce or Mirage is pre or post 2001. Daytona 9s is surely pre.

How can you use a pointy-hood (pre-'97?) Record brifter with a post-2001 Record RD? Would a Shift-Mate work?

The post-2001 Ergo levers all have the number of speeds printed on the front of the lever body, i.e. "9 SPEED", "10 SPEED" etc.

Look at Shift Mate's website for application tables if needed.
I've sometimes found the pre-2001 rear derailers to be scarce and/or extraspensive.

I've got a 2000 Bianchi with mostly a mix of Veloce and Daytona if anyone needs to compare details against that year.
