Bicycle Mechanics - Installing alloy fenders on Casseroll

I am planning to install 47mm VO fluted fenders on my 2007 Salsa Casseroll. I currently have shimano long reach brake calipers however they're too narrow & will pinch the VO fenders. I'm looking for suggestions for reasonably priced brakes that will work and provide enough clearance. Does anyone know if the Tektro R539 AG will work?

You're probably better off, notching the fenders for the brakes.

I'm not saying you won't find wider calipers with the right reach, but it may be difficult. As a rule calipers are made to a narrow range of proportion so a wider caliper will probably have more reach than you can use.

Installing fenders is one job that I refuse to cost estimate. I haven't done enough of them to get really good at it but I've done enough to know there's almost always a clearance issue somewhere that has to be overcome. I would think that if any bike should qualify as a straight fender bolt up it would be a Casseroll.

I'd notch the fenders before I spent a lot of time looking for different brake calipers too. Be happy if that's all that you have to do.

Mr. Dremel is your friend. Just trim the fenders and go ride.

Do you need fenders that wide? VO sells fenders as narrow as 35 mm and, unless you are using very wide tires, narrower fenders should eliminate the brake caliper interference.

You generally want fenders that are about 10mm wider than the tire.

Assuming you have the right size, pinch the sides of the fenders in to clear the caliper.

They are probably wider than I need but I got a good deal on them awhile ago but have not installed them yet. I currently am using 28s but would like to go to 32s. For the asthetics I would prefer not to pinch/ distort the fender if at all possible.

Understandable, but it's a pretty standard thing to do. It'll save you much more heartache than finding a caliper that will fit. Centerpulls will have more clearance FYI.
