I have no idea what they're worth. Can anyone provide some insight? They're in fair to good condition.

i would say these are worth in the 300-400$ range - i actually had one exactly like it for about a month or so - i really didnt dig the full suspension for the type of riding i do and have since been riding rigids - but its a cool bike(s) for sure - enjoy

The best way to determine value is to look at recent sales in your area. I know of two that were recently sold in your area, but don't know the price. Maybe you can help with that information.

Approximate value of Specialized FSR Bikes I just bought

If you just bought them why do you need to know what they are worth? would you have paid $50 more for them? $100?

What components are on them? it looks like Alivio which is a mid to lower level group. actually I think the either the chains are too long or the RDs are broken.

if your lucky you may get a few dollars more than you paid but you did not score some uber valuable bike for pennies

I need to know what they are worth because I am going to sell them. They were on sale for what I belived was a very low price so I snapped them up hoping to make a few dollars. The components are all Shimano Deore LX.

I was unable to find your model on bikepedia, as Specialized made about 1000 different FSR models. But based on the components and age (rim brakes) I would guess about $300-350 each. You came on here looking for opinions, mind telling us what you paid for them?

Looks like someone has foolishly shifted both bikes into the dreaded small-small combination. Nothing should be broken unless serious miles were put on in those gears.

Price them for what you believe they are worth, and let the market decide. In my experience, about half the value of any bike is in the marketing, the better the preparation (cleanliness), mechanical condition, and presentation (great pics), the better the price.

Condition is everything, fair to good is a wide, wide spread.

+1 Bikes appear severely cross chained. This will hurt pricing.

MTBs around here go cheap, really cheap. I avoid them as far as trying to make decent money out of them. In general, on modern MTBs, buyers want disc brakes.

They are certainly neither vintage nor classic.

Not at all. I paid $175 each. I think there's a problem with the deraileur on one of them but I haven't looked real closely yet.

That's another consideration. Most people are not looking to buy two of the same bike, unless you get lucky and find a couple and they both fit on each bike. As a pair, I would not expect more than $500 either. Maybe my previous estimate was high. Really depends how these things ride and if there are shifting problems that will lower the value significantly unless it is fixed.

Are those clipless pedals? Might sell better if you swapped on some cheap plastic platforms and offered to throw in the clipless ones.

If you didn't want them you should have left them for someone who wanted them to ride not make a profit.

$175 each is a strong figure for fair to good, as is, MTBs, particularly if the sole desire is to profit from them. I have no problem with people that buy stuff with the intent to resell, I certainly do it all the time. As keepers, $175 would probably be an attractive price.

My good friend rode an FSR that was sort of a "cheeze whiz" yellow, but otherwise looked similar to these two. The older FSRs have a 4-bar linkage for which Specialized no longer produces/supplies the bushings. Once they wear and get sloppy, well... you're stuck. Also, these had rim V-brakes, which aren't the best when you ride in slop (mud, sticks, leaves, etc.), and they lead to rim wear. You may want to check:
- rear derailleur alignment
- derailleur pulley wear
- v-brake pad wear
- rim surface wear
- play in rear suspension linkage(s)

These will really tell you about the condition of these bikes. Someone who's overly fond of the FSR might want these for parts. Are these the 8-speed ones?

My friend wouldn't buy one, since he's gone to Cannondale carbon "leftys" - one a 26" FS, the other a 29er HT. Both have hydraulic disc brakes, a vast improvement in braking performance.

Good luck. Maybe these might bring $250 each if properly tuned, cleaned, and listed.
