BMX - urban assault

hey guys iv done a bit of urban assualt and i am really getting into it.

therefor i am looking to buy an urban assualt bike. iv heard that the specialized p street, .243, Norco 604, Ellsworth specialist, Banshee scratch, Surly Instigator and the BALFA minuteman are all excalent assualt bikes. my problem is im 100 pounds 5'5'' so i need somthing really light that can still take beating.

if you have any suggestions or recomendations that would be awsome, any price range i just wana see what my choices are.

Not to be rude, but what is "urban assault" riding? As far as I know, the term doesn't have any specific meaning, it's more of a general "take on the urban environment and make it your own." For many of us, that means things like tearing it up in traffic, using every passable terrain, and so on. It sounds like you're getting into urban trials riding.

If so, you may want to also post this in the mountain biking forum as there is a much larger crossover with mountain biking (particularly free ride and north shore folks) and trials riders than the usual fixed gear/SS crowd.

Urban assault is usually freeriding in the urban environment.. i.e stair drops, jumps, etc.
Kinda like BMX, Trials, and Freeriding all in an urban setting.

well i am new to the site so take it easy and many bikes people use for ussault are fixed gear

joking i know urban free riders dont ride fixed gear bikes but whats to say just because you ride fixed youve never riden street.

you would probably get more info on what you need at the BMX forum... if you want to talk about pie, drinking beer, messenger bags and gear ratios, come back to this forum. :) I was worried there, you were naming all these bikes that i never heard of before, then again i dont know much about newer bikes.... and i dont know anything about "urban assualt" except when I run into a taxi on my way to work each day.

I would worry about steel so dump the 243 the frame is kind of heavy for you.

How much money do you have. You do realize most of the bikes (besides the p series) run 700 american just for the frame. That means the bike will be about 2000$ when all is said and done

right now im not sure of the money situation i really just want to find out what options i have if you have any other suggestions that would be great any price range.

p.s isnt the a 243 that is 6 pounds that doesnt seem to heavy?

Maybe it was the lack of proper capitalization or punctuation. Maybe we're just old fogeys or maybe those things DO actually aide the readability of written English. I'll leave the proof as an exercise to the reader.

Funny that you posted in the SS/fixie forum first, not the BMX or MTB forums. My trials/u.assault bike was SS and some of the best freeriders 'round campus ride SS (I believe their moto is:One speed, one brake is all you need). If you really want an urban assault bike w/SS you should get the kind with horizontal drop-outs AND a deraillure(sp?) hanger, there's tons of those out there and not just from the major companies that you mentioned. Check out WebCyclery.com, they're pretty dedicated SS riders.

A lot of urban assault riders run SS. This isn't just the fixed forum. That said, MTBR sure could have worded his question better.

Perhaps, but posting a question like that would be akin to posting a bmx question here in this forum. Bmx's are singlespeeds. As was said before beer, messenger bags, gear ratios, messengering, alleycats, things like that go here, other non important stuff goes elsewhere.

I got a Surly Instigator built it up for up, down, jumps, and urban assault. yes it's heavy. Yes it's fun. No it's not a SS. I ride a Jekyl for xc. Don't get anal on the bike. Get enough clearance for for jewels and ride. The P series is an awesome choice too. I had as much fun on my stingray with a sissybar way back when as I do now. Just did'nt know the difference. Point is "go ride".

I ride a haro escape 8.2 that I converted to single speed. I don't ride too much street on it, but I ride trais (dirt jumps) and a lot of skatepark. I'm sure it would hold up to a lot of street abuse as well. Other options would be the haro zero, dk makes a 24" and 26".
