Electric Bikes - 350 miles later & I've figured out how to nurse battery discharge for best range.

Is it just me or did it take other E-Bikers a while to really understand how to apply the juice in relationship with pedaling for best range & fun/exercise factor ?:)
I rode 17 + miles today on my Mountain E-bike with a 9 AH Panasonic cell 36 volt / Con-His motor 500 watt motor setup, my furthest distance by far .. I . In the past I was going for quick neighborhood 3-7 mile blasts heavy on the thumb throttle, sometimes towards the end of these quick fast runs I would hit the thumb throttle & nothing so i figured battery was getting close to flat but not so, seems the over discharge protection was kicking in. I averaged around 12 MPH's today which was a windy day & took a nice leasurly ride to a neat local spot on the water. I stoped 3 or 4 times shut off the battery & rested, the thing that is really cool is the meter on the battery showed it was still 3/4 charged when I got home 17 miles later.
I totally understand why the manufactures state such a varied range for e-bikes. ..
& I've realized the best way to nurse the batteries discharge which pretty much includes me pedaling along most of the way giving it a little shot of juice to sustain the speeds etc..
Oh well sorry for rambling but I'm pretty psyched knowing I have the range with my newly learned e-biking technique to hit some neat local spots ..:thumb:

It keeps on getting better now that you have figured that much out. I can get close to 40 miles on a 12ah LiFePo4 (9.36ah actual due to BMS) 48v with a 1000w direct drive hubmotor averaging 18 mph in hilly terrain by pedaling in a big enough gear to stay on top of the motor, which I keep at pretty much full throttle. Basically I am assisting the motor!

Yes assisting the motor is a good way to look @ it :thumb:
I'm 50 years old in April & need to exercise more as heart disease runs in my family so by making the electric motor more of a 50/50 partner my E-bike is like a whole new experience/vehicle for me
I'm able to go pretty far & get a whole lot of much needed exercise & sun & reach the places the Pretty Girls hang out :p.
Basiclly I was a little bummed out before thinking I got too small of a battery but now not so due to my latest Epiphany ..
Oh well rambling again, thanks for the reply :)

I chose a Crystalyte 500W Hub with a 36V 10a Lit-Ion battery
Laced into the 16" wheel on my BOB trailer wheel

I've achieved over 100K using the hub mainly hill assist while touring
I'll 59 in May....can't wait for touring this year!
