Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Bamboo Tandem for a Clyde?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
OK, should Sayre get this as his next bike?

The people I just bought my tandem from have a bamboo tandem on order- I think they said it was 2 or 3 months or something lead time- so that's one drawback.

Only if he's going to hang it on the wall as decoration.
Have you seen the wood framed bikes? renovobikes.com is one source... gotta admit this looks gorgeous but I don't see it happening except as a conversation piece.

They need time to grow the frame?

I actually have seen these bikes in person a few years ago at a charity here in Oregon. They are absolutely stunning to look at. I talked to the rep for quite a while, and they serious about people using their product. They build them to be ridden hard and are not afraid to let customers know it. If I ever get another road bike, I will at least test ride one of these to see if I want one.
Depends...does he have a stoker?

I read about them some. They do sound cool. There was a guy riding a Calfee bamboo single on Cycle Oregon '07. I am doing CO again this year. (It sold out in 40 min.) Hopefully, Renovo will be there at least one day. Chris King travelled with the event in '07.

Why? The bamboo bikes I've ridden on are light, strong, and responsive. I have no need for one at the moment, but I would consider them if I was looking to add to my stable in the future. As a matter of fact, I have a couple of design ideas and I may try them out with bamboo or wood for that matter just because of the cost, availability, and the ability to work them myself.

Go for it! I am going to give Bamboo a try myself!
