Well consider this a newbie post, I'm normally on a road bike.

Picked up a free project frame but confused about something. It is an older steel diamondback 26" frame. It had (what appears to be) a stock triple crank, and a cable stop on the rear chain stay, but the dropout is not threaded for a rd. ?? I'm content to make this into a ss tourer (much less expensive) but why the trappings of an rd without a threaded dropout? Further confusing me is that the dropouts are reverse horizontal. All the makings for a geared bike but apparently it isn't?

Thanks for the replies.

Possibly intended for a low-end rd with claw hanger attached.

Ah, looked it up and that is obviously what it must have been.

I'll probably just build it as a ss with a flip flop for high/low gear to keep the cost within the appropriate bracket of the frame.

Thanks much.

I have a '93ish DB Traverse I made into a SS. My bro-in-law bought it new and it had all cheaper parts. I got it from him for a chair, and after having it awhile, decided to go SS with it. Came out nice... and was way cheap to convert.
