Foo - Whats your morning like? (Before 8 A.M?)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

OK, I wake up, do the brushing of the teeth and such, then I go to the basement and scoop two trays of kitty litter which to some may sound horrible but I used to scoop six trays! so two is not a problem at all! :thumb: Then I clean puppy pads and what ever "misses" the wifes little dog made during the night, then I go into the yard and clean up what ever messes my big dog Vic made during the night, I go back inside sweep and mop the basement and head upstairs for a shower, after my shower I have breakfast and prepare for the rest of the day. :)
What about you? What do you do before 8 A.M? :)

What time do you wake up? That sounds like quite the routine.
I wake up at 6am, put a pot of water on the stove to boil. Grind coffee and put it in the french press. I wash the dishes (no dishwasher) by hand that were neglected the night before. Pour the boiling water into the french press, set the timer on the stove.
I then go into the bedroom and poke the wife until she gets up. Sometimes I sick the cat on her.
Once the timer goes off, I press the coffee and pour a cup for my wife and I each. The french press is just the right size for two larger cups. I prepare breakfast, sit on the couch while eating it and watch a little bit of news.
I then prepare my lunch, get dressed, brush my teeth, check the time, and head out the door to catch a bus or ride my bike. The whole routine takes an hour. I shower the night before.

Wake up at 6:35, brush teeth, shave, shower. Run to kitchen to start coffee pot and breakfast (usually microwaving oatmeal or cocowheats), run back to bedroom and get dressed in what I mentally picked out the night before (underwear/socks/t-shirt were already sitting on the bathroom sink). Fill up thermos with coffee, put oatmeal in container, and pack them up for work. Out the door at 7:10. For the earlier train, same routine just 30 minutes sooner (which hasn't worked out at all the past few months).
If the kids are here:
7:15AM - Wake up, tell kids to get dressed for school, go back to bed for 15 minutes.
7:30AM - Wake up, analyze kids fashion choices, suggest adjustments, go back to bed for 15 minutes.
7:45AM - Wake up, brush little girl's hair, take kids to school, go back to bed.
If the kids are not here:
7:15AM - Wake up, realize kids are not here, pee, unplug alarm clock, go back to bed.
EDIT: There used to be a 20 mile ride in between 6am and 8am... but that's no longer there.

Hmmm, my morning starts at 2:45am:
2:45am: Youngest wakes up, hungry.
3:44am: Cat wakes me up, hungry and all around whiny.
4:41am: Oldest wakes up, thirsty.
5:00am: Youngest wakes up again, happy and ready to play for the day.
6:45am: Wake up my wife and tell her to take over the kiddo because I need to get ready for work. Sometimes I just put the kids in their room together so my wife can keep sleeping, but then all heck breaks loose anyway.
7:20am: Get to work 40 minutes early because I need to get out of the house as I have been up for 120 minutes taking care of babies.

On any given day, little Mr. A (just turned 2) wakes up between 6ish and 7:30. I have been trying to get up at 6:30 or whenever he gets up, whichever is earlier. Sometimes, I just wait for him and sleep in a little. :)
In any case, when we're all up, breakfast is pretty much immediate (except on weekends when pancakes/waffles/baked goods are involved).
Then there's getting us both ready for work, usually one at a time while the other plays with the toddler.
I am out the door anywhere between 7:30 and 8ish, Mrs. A heads over to the sitter's (one mobilehome park-block over) at 9 and then to her office by 9:30.
Weekdays.
Wake up is at 0530.
Let the dogs out.
Brush teeth.
Nature call.
Shower.
Strop razor.
Shave-apply good aftershave.
Get dressed and leave house.
Go to donut shop for my croissant and coffee, maybe get a hug from Julia who works at the donut shop. :)
Get to work.
Weekends.
Wake up at 0800.
Same as above except I step out to eat at my favorite diner or just lounge around the house.

Since I'm not working, I sleep before 8am, and then hopefully I wake up not too much after 8am.

During the week:
If weather permits:
Wake up at 5:50
bathroom #1
quick bite to eat for the trip
usually bathrrom #2
change out of what i was sleeping in into layered bike clothing (spring can't come soon enough - even with the mild winter)
put lunch into messenger bag & set off for work (10ish miles) around 6:15 am
get to work around 6:55ish am
park bike & unpack
shower
dress for work
eat full breakfast & start working at 7:30
If weather doesn't permit:
wake up at 6
let the dogs out (wife lets 'em out in scenario above)
usually bathroom sometime between all this
eat full breakfast
play on the internets
shower
dress for work
make lunch
leave for work around 7:45
get to work around 8
Yep, I actually get to work & start working earlier on the days I ride! :-O Probably because of my internet addiction.
Weekend:
Usually get up earlier than 8... just watch tv mainly & finish breakfast. If I'm feeling sprite and want to get shtuff done, I might get a shower in somewhere before 8. Maybe already have started going for a ride if the weather permits & I'm not feeling lazy. Sometimes I get up past 8 too :-)

According to my physiologic rhythms:
before 5:00 AM = early morning
5:00 to 7:00 AM = mid morning
7:00 to 9:00 = late morning
after 9:00 AM = pre-afternoon.
Monday - Friday: Up before 5 AM; brush teeth; surf on the Internet, read Bikeforums, surf some selected channels on cable TV, including the Weatherscan channel, and fill in my journal while having coffee. Then I dress appropriately for my 14 mile (or greater, year-round) commute, leave by ~ 6 AM and arrive at work by ~7:30 AM (I'm salaried so I can get right to work at my convenience.)
Saturday: Similar but longer Internet and cable TV surfing, later start and arrival at work for a few hours.
Sunday: Initially begins similar to Saturday, but because I'm such an early riser, with not much to do around the house without waking the family, I usually drive to work for a couple hours, leaving home ~ 6 AM to do some stuff, and buy groceries. I'm then home by 9:30 AM for some family activities.
(I now usually go to bed after 11:00 PM, so it's tough to get up much before 5:00 AM, like I used to a few years ago. Back then I even had a field on my cycling spreadsheet called "5 AM checkpoint" to note where I was en route at that time of the morning.) :innocent:
Get up at 0415, go to the gym, come home, eat, shower, ride to coffee shop, go to work, try to answer all emails and sign everything before the rest of the office starts.

Scenario #1: up at 5:45, shower & dress for work, feed cats and clean up any stray cat poop or hairballs hacked on the floor, get to work by 7:00.
Scenario #2: up at 4:45, put on cycling clothes, feed cats and clean up any stray cat poop or hairballs hacked on the floor, go to gym and teach spin class at 5:30, shower and change at gym after class, get to work by 7:45.
I always eat breakfast at my desk.
Alarm @ 4:45am
off to work @ 6:05 am
open my toolbox @ 6:30 am
1st 10 min break @ 9:00 am

@ 2:30 go home
6:15 wake up, start breakfast
6:30 wake up family
6:45 breakfast on table (devotional with boys on most mornings)
6:55 jump in shower while wife herds boys from breakfast to get dressed and ready for school
7:20 start rounding up boys to get in car
7:25 leave house
7:35 drop off boys at school and head to work
8:00 at office

At 8AM, my most likely scenario is that I have not only smacked the Snooze button, I've actually towed the whole alarm clock under the covers so I can muffle the next three times it goes off, so it doesn't annoy the upstairs/downstairs apartment residents. I don't have to be at work until 10AM and I have no cats, dogs, or children. I had a houseplant once, but that didn't end well.
You morning people make me green with envy :thumb:
Up at 5:30, grab cup of coffee and hit bathroom till close to 6. Make oatmeal, eat, pack lunch. Out the door by about 6:25. Drive 45 miles to work -takes less than an hour. I drive fast. Plan for my classes, make copies, rehearse notes, what I'm going to present. Drink tea, snack a little on fruit, check e-mail till kids come in a little after 8.

When the girls are here (winter):
Wake up at 6:30 and tickle the girls into consciousness or sic the puppy on them who does a good job of getting them up, start breakfast and coffee/tea and make sure the aforementioned girls are up and moving about lest they crawl back under the covers.
Usually make lunches in the early am while the girls are having breakfast and we leave at 7:45 to catch the bus which leaves at 8:05.
The birds usually like to sleep until at least 9 so by the time I get home they are ready for cuddles and scritches and they keep me company while I make sure their cages are tidy and while I enjoy cup of coffee number 2... by this time the dog also wants to go out as she likes to crawl back under the covers too.
When it just me:
Usually sleep until 9am and don't need an alarm clock as the feathered babies start calling me.
In the spring and summer the girls and I commute to school by bike so we leave here at 7:45 and the ride does not take much more time than it does for them to bus to school... with longer days and an early sunrise we get up a little earlier and some days we leave 30 minutes early so we can stop for hot chocolate and coffee en route.

When it is not too cold here (which is not too often), I get up about 5am and go on a 21 mile ride because that is usually the only time I know I can ride during the week. After a shower, I get my 6yr old up at about 6:40. Make her some breakfast and her lunch (if she is not buying at school that day). Then at 7am I get my 12yr up and at about 7:25 take my 6yr old to school. Once back I make myself something to eat and go to work in my home office.
