Foo - I started burning E85 in my new truck

The new truck is a flex fuel vehicle & it is available at a reasonable distance from me. I'll be back on my bicycle in a few more weeks so I won't be driving much anyway. Seems like the right thing to do is run E85 for the sake of emissions when I do need to drive the truck.

I'm not familiary with E85. It seems to be ethanol-based. Does it produce significantly less emissions?

It 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. The new flex fuel vechicals the computer compensates the fuel mixtures so that their is no noticeable power differences. The emissions are clean but their is a trade off. Their is no loss in power but the fuel efficiency is lost in mileage of between 20 & 30%. It is recovered in the price at the pump of about $.40 to $.50 cents a gallon cheaper assuming you can find it in a reasonable distance. You also have the option of making your own fuel but it is time consuming and regulated in the USA. It is moonshine for lack of a better term. You can buy or build a still and apply for the proper permit that is free and legally make up to 10,000 gallons in the United States. That said their are procedures and requirements of documentation and denaturing with gasoline. In the end the reason behind my choice has to do with clean emissions and environment and the fact that the fuel is easy to obtain for me.

Save your money for the new gasket sets.....corn squeezins love gaskets.
