I'm headed out to Moab for SB. Trail reccs, cheap (free) camping spots, must sees? What do I need to know and do way out there in Utah?

While in moab, drive the hour and a half and come ride in fruita!! (stop by the shop and say hi, maybe go for a ride)
you can camp free near many trails. ride porcupine, ride amasa back, ride the portal. slickrock is good, it's one of the "must do's" but it's not the most awesome.
breakfast at the love muffin, after ride dinner at pasta jays, burgers at milts.
oh, and all beer is fake/weak, so bring your own or come to colorado and stock up with real actual beer.

it's getting warm now, not sure when you will be here, but soon we will be in short sleeves. it's supposed to be in the 50's here today

most of the trails are open, you can probably do UPS/LPS/Porcupine, which is like, the 2nd half of the whole enchilada. the higher stuff has snow.

Porc from as high up as conditons permit. Bring a nice beer for the overlook.

Slickrock. Yeah, it can get old if you ride it a lot, but if you've never been on it, it's pretty freakin' cool.
Magnificent-7 area trails, and some other newer stuff has come in since I've been able to do regular trips. Haven't ridden most of them, but have heard good things. The little bit of some I rode last April was nice. The local shops will have the latest info though. Sovereign trail is really fun pedaly goodness.
Best camping depends on what amenities you want/have to have. The closer you are to town, the more expensive/more "luxurious" the spots are. Depends on how dirt-baggy you want to do the trip. My fav stuff for free/dispersed area camping is out and about near Center Point. Make sure you've got a good bag, and warm stuff for lougning around camp. It can still be pretty damn cold at night, and early morning when you're waking up/starting to move about.
Other stuff just depends on your time and budget. How many days to ride? Camp the whole time? Cooking and eating at camp, or all in town, or some combo?
Grab some DH tires, throw them on the bike and don't worry about flats. Or a good tubeless setup. Not so much from sharp and pointy things, but all the nice square edged things that are easy to pinch flat with.
