Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - Help identify old MERCIER?

Hi,

i am looking for this Mercier to buy for my perhaps rando touring project?
Since its impossible to find any decent info regarding this old french brand i am wondering can somebody help me to at least identify from the pics which model or level this one could be?

I can't figure it out from the pics is it 100, 200 or some other??. Since it has stronglight TSbis drilled crankset 52 40, i think it could to be a good frame for what i would like to build ???

Any thoughts, info???

This one appears to be from the very late 1970s, so I don't think the 100 and 200 designations apply. The rear derailleur is the entry level Simplex S001 and the front a better SXA22. Given the entry level levers, the front derailleur is probably an upgrade from one of the piston style, entry level derailleurs but I can't say for sure. The brakes are ubiquitous MAFAC. The crankset and the wheels, which appear to be 700c aluminum rims, are the highlights. The components in conjunction with the era suggests the frame is probably hi-tensile steel and the bicycle is roughly equivalent to a Peugeot PA10 or PAN10.

I've got some detailed pics from the owner. Tubes are alleges special 28-26, brakes mafac racer, stem beleri, handlebar kiprim....The person wants 159 eur ...

Frame tubes sound to be common high tensile steel, so it might be an upper entry level Mercier at best but at least the fram is fully lugged and the dropouts look surprisingly to be forged with adjusters at the rear. It should be make for a solid, reliable ride.
God I hate it when people tilt drop bars up that way! It's totally not safe and looks so stupid!.........someone save that Mercier!

Owners too cheap and clueless to get a proper upright bar for the bike...
Why did they get a bike with drop bars in the first place???....the hosers!:notamused:

LOL I really want to get a classic 10 speed style bike but I'm pretty sure that I won't be able to handle the drop bars. So I will put a proper flat bar on the bike and keep the drop bars until I lose enough weight to use the drop bars. But I certainly would not flip the drop bars around and ride around looking like a dorky.

the person doesnt know anything about the bike. He got it for who knows what reason? I had very hard time to explain to him how to measure it. Anyway, i am wondering can it be solid touring frame potential or it is better to

Sounds like my orignal assessment was right on the mark. As for touring use, I'd try to find something else. This bicycle is basically a late 1970s club racer. It's not even recreational or sports touring geometry, let alone grand touring.

will leave it ....Maybe finally some UO8 or Trek 520 somehow finds it way to croatia. Or will pay 400eur for lht frame :(
