I just got my hand on an immaculate Harry Hall road bike, I'll post some more pics when I get a minute. I just have a couple of questions.

There seems to be a bit of conflicting information about the Valentino FD and the Gran Sport, both are basically the same, but the Valentino has the world logo, is this correct?

The RD for this bike has been changed for a Suntour and it would be nice to track down the matching Campy RD. Also are the levers appropriate for these derailleurs? Any advice appreciated :)

Here is the best picture of my Valentino to use as a comparison.

I believe they look the same.

The difference is the nut on the top versus the nut on the side. I believe that OP's is later Gran Sport (later logo), while the second is Valentino.

Nice looking bike, btw, from what we can see. How about posting an overall shot from the drive side?

Thanks guys, after ages of searching on google I found this: http://www.classicrendezvous.com/Italy/Campagnolo/GS_vs_Valentino.htm

So it does look like mine is a gran sport. That kinda raises another question, the FD can't be original because I think the bike is late 70's/early 80's. I'll post more pics later.

Correct.

Also, the finish on the Valentino is more of a dull, brushed metal. The GS is a nice shiny chrome.

Cages are easily replaced and I believe some Valentino came with the top mounted bolt. The true way to differeniate is to look at where the piston rod exits the body. The Valentino has a raised flange/collar, while the Gran Sport does not.

The main difference I look for in a Gran Sport vs the later Valentino is the shaft support. The OPs derailleur has the cage shaft coming directly out of the body. The Valentino in the other poster's picture has a protruding shaft support coming out of the main body about 1/4 inch.

Thanks for all the clarifications on the differences between these two similar FDs. Very helpful.

Some more pics, it would be good to get an idea of age, then I can source some age appropriate parts.

I'll start a new post for Harry Hall. He was one of the best regarded bicycle builders in Britain and head mechanic for the ill fated Tom Simpson at the 1967 Tour de France.

Beautiful bike! Wonderful color! Based on the other French bits (cranks and calipers), I'd encourage you to find either highend Huret or Simplex derailleurs to use.

I am in the market for a Campy Gran Sport front derailleur, in case the OP wants to sell or trade. I have lots to offer in trades - Campy, Simplex, Huret, Suntour, Shimano, Galli, ???

I need to think on this, but I know what you mean about the French bits and to help things along I have a Simplex Prestige Super LJ RD, with an alloy body.

Talking off the top of my head, if I went french, would you have a simplex FD that suits a Simplex Prestige Super LJ?

Thanks Bianchi, I'll post more pics when its all mirror clean :)

The shifters are 1980s Record, whereas the FD is 1960s Gran Sport, as previously discussed.
