I've never understood why women love cats.

Cats are independent, they don't listen, they don't come in when you call, they
like to stay out all night, and when they're home they like to be left alone
and sleep.

In other words, every quality that women hate in a man, they love in a cat.

Wasn't it Robert Heinlein who said that Women and cats will do what they want,
and men and dogs should just sit back and get used to the idea?

Yes that is Robert (in hte mouth of the character Lazarus Long). I'd bet it is a paraphrase of Twain.

Joey our Beta dog would simply jump on the cat and literally burry it if the cat got too out of line. (Do not confuse a beta dog with a submissive dog, Joey accepted being second in a pack of 2, but was also the strike force if they went hunting).

And God have mercy on you if you hurt either of the dog's cats, the dogs sure would not have shown any.

Our greyhounds stay the hell out of the way of the cat. Our old hound was an alpha female. if kitty growled at her when she was on the couch, doggie would kick her with a hind leg. Could get the cat halfway across the room.
