Foo - You have to laugh, sort of. Is it okay to laugh?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Last night I attended a "Share the Road" advocacy event with exhibits and speakers. Two hundred people showed up in a town of 30,000. That's pretty good, I think.

As part of the festivities, one of the local bike shops held a free draw for a bike. So at the end of the evening the organizer reached into the jar and pulled out the slip containing the name of the winner. He announced it, and we all looked around to see who'd won.

It was a guy in a wheelchair.

There was a hushed, awkward silence. But the dude in the chair was laughing about it. He took it in his stride, so to speak.

Ahem.

That is pretty funny.

At a benefit for my mother before she died, there was a drawing for a bicycle, donated by a local bike shop. Of the several hundred people that showed up, I was the only person who knew what a bicycle was, I think.

Anyway, there was a drawing, and I won the bike. But, since I was the son of a woman who was going to die soon, there was a huge uproar that it wouldn't be fair if I won the bike--since it was my own mother's benefit. So, they drew again and someone else got it...a week later, that person called me and gave the bike to me anyway.

Hand cranked trikes are available. If I were the store, I'd offer to apply the amount they donated toward the purchase of one.

Is this why the word "irony" was invented?

Cool. Hopefully they can transfer that bike to a bike that fits his needs. One of my many forums I'm on - is a backpacking/hiking forum where there is a guy who is on a mtb 3 wheeler and he gets around quite well - offroading. Yay for bicycling!

When my son was 6 he won a drawing for a $1200 Specialized full suspension MT bike (back in '98 pretty cool stuff!)... the crowd response was half & half - "that little ****" & "he'll grow into it"....

I once won a $50 gas card at our company picnic. At the time, I lived across the street from where I work.
