Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - 1987 Schwinn Voyageur

In a recent post, the consensus was that a 1987 Schwinn voyageur with the following specs would be valued at $350+/- in the SF area. Any idea what the central Ohio market would be for the same bike? See pics below. I have got approximately $220 in the bike in new parts etc. The bike had a little rust which I sanded and painted but otherwise the frame was in very good condition. Thanks in advance for your guidance.

Wow, deja vu. This is eerily similar to the other imperial rose Voyageur. In your market, I would put it closer to $300. Very nice indeed.

+1. I sold a Schwinn Letour Luxe two years ago for $250.00. It was a 1985 and in nice shape, similar to yours but didn't have fenders. It did have the original Blackburn rack which was in stellar condition.

If I were you I'd market it with nice photos, a nice write-up and promote it as a touring/commuter bike. It seems the touring bike craze is still growing so take advantage of it. Gas also is going up by the hour, so that helps too.

Personally, I agree with Fastjake, but I'd start with it listed at $350.00 and you can work down from there. Or you might find just the right buyer who will shell out the cash. For some reason it looks bigger than 21", but bikes that size are good movers.

You are all correct, it is a 25. I cut and pasted from the other post and missed that. In fact, if it wasn't so big I would keep it for myself.

I would say you should at least get your investment back. My quess is the bike will sell for $250-$300. Unforntenatly you won't get a lot extra for the nice detailing job you did and the fenders and the rack. If your planning on getting or building similar bikes in the future you may want to consider taking the fenders and rack off the bike since you won't get much additional value for them when you sell it.

You'll get your best price on eBay, and your buyer will pay your flat fee shipping - go FedEx ground, the smallest box you can manage. Alternatively, advertise it on CL in the biggest cities within driving distance.

I bought a CL bike from a small town 100s of miles away, my son picked it up on his drive home from college. The seller would never have gotten his price locally.

I thought I would try eBay but since I've never sold anything there, I would have to learn. How do you arrange for shipping?

Columbus is a big enough area that you should be able to sell locally, for $300 to $350 come riding season. XL size is a negative, so it could take a while. Never sold on ebay? That means zero feedback as a seller, which will hold down the bidding some. For shipping a bike, google is your friend, many threads on that topic already.
