Get a nylon tri-fold wallet. I've had mine for 8-10 years and it's still in great shape. Target and Amazon have similar ones for about $10 -11.

It's waterproof in case you try and swim across the border.

Slimmy Wallet (http://www.koyono.com/Slim-Front-Pocket-Wallets-s/3.htm)
There are a few variations now. I have the original Slimmy. Will never go back to carrying my wallet in my back pocket.

Wallets in the back pocket are soooo 20th Century. They are easy to steal and cause spinal misalignment.
I keep my nylon one in the front pocket.

After looking at the Slimmy site again, I now want the International SE version. The Slimmy works fine, but having it a little taller might be nice.

A co-worker has a Tyvek wallet. I'll consider one when my binder clip gives out.
More fun wallet ideas. Mine's pretty torn up and is begging to be replaced too.

If I understand this, you just created a new thread asking for advice to buy a new wallet in a biking forum. No comment.

Fair enough. But wallets are typically a preference thing. You go out and try some of them out. I guess I was surprised you wanted feedback on purchasing a wallet. What next? Deodorant??

there are a lot of wallets out there on the market. many are very different. they come from many different sources (there's no wallet superstore that has like every wallet) and many of these sources are obscure places online. i've had my current wallet for probably 8 years and it is becoming tattered. i am making an important, lasting decision here. i don't want some lame wallet either. i want something classy and original.
all these concerns are things that people here can help me with.
I've had a Filson wallet for 3-4 years. http://www.filson.com/products/leather-security-wallet.65204.html?fromCat=true&fvalsProduct=luggage/wallets&fmetaProduct=1019

Here's a cool cycling wallet. Made of tubes and banners and waterproof. It's made by Bontrager, and outrageously priced. I found it on a clearance table at my LBS for $16.http://newsopotamus.com/walley3.jpg

I knew a guy, his GF worked in the post-natal surgery department of a big hospital and she collected a bunch of foreskins from circumcisions. He tanned them and sewed them into a wallet.
Cool thing was if you rubbed that wallet for a minute or so it turned into a small suitcase for a while.

If you want original, then Tandy Leather (http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/search/site+search+results.aspx?sectionpath=3&processor=content&p_keyword=wallet)is your place. You can give your wallet any look you want. Make it yourself.
If that is too much work, Sanrio has a selection of 150 wallets (http://shop.sanrio.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-eStore-Site/default/Search-Show?q=wallet), or try Zappos.com (http://www.zappos.com/search/accessories/filter/productTypeFacet/%22Accessories%22/categoryFacet/%22Wallets%22/sort/productPopularity/asc?gclid=CN6e47zPy64CFUll7AodTlIdEg&zlfid=2#!/search/accessories/filter/productTypeFacet/%22Accessories%22/categoryFacet/%22Wallets%22/gender/%22mens%22/sort/productPopularity/asc/) because Gucci is out of your league.

No need for a wallet. Just tat your name on one arm, your DL # on the other, and implant a RFID chip in your hand or wrist containing you credit info- but you can only shop at places that have the PayPass (http://www.mastercard.us/paypass.html#/home/) readers.

Do they have special chips with 666 serial numbers on them?? I want one of those -- preferably on my forehead.

That is true ;)
I carry a special one in my cost/shirt pocket that has casing where people with card readers cannot get the credit card info to steal your identity... while that sounds fairly paranoid, I am in the law enforcement occupation sector and it REALLY happens... :P

Wallets from Couch Guitar Straps
http://www.couchguitarstraps.com/wallets-c-10.html
Made from recycled vinyl, some being materials originally intended for the interiors of old Mustangs, VWs, Mercedes and others.
For example, this is late 60's Pontiac GTO material.

WAY cool stuff on that site. I'd like one of their camera straps.
