Utility Cycling - my bike doesn't have eyelets for a rear rack. what should i do?

i just installed a semi beefy topeak rear rack with a seat post clamp, but as i was installing i realized that i have only one eyelet on my frame for the base (the derariler side does not have the eyelet) so i used two rubber lined clams to rig it on there myself and it seemed good. tonight (fortunatley i was almost home) it caved in where the clamps had been installed and broke the derailer, smashing it into my drivetrain and wheel tearing out spokes. after i fix everything, how do i get a rack to stay on?

1 clamp on chain stay, 1 on seat stay. Connect with stout metal bar... Say1"x 1/8" Al. The rack can mount to one clamp bolt, or to a third hole in bar where needed. By clamps I mean Adel or "P" style...sounds like what you have.

Rubber lined stainless steel p clips, Stauff clamps, conduit, hydraulic pipe clamps, etc. There are a few viable options out there.

I've use P clips and stauf clamps for various clamping jobs on bikes. trikes, quads and trailers, etc.

It will cost a little bit more but if you want as solid of a set up as possible I would check out old man mountain racks, they get rid of the need for eyelets and work fantastic. I think what you did is ok, but you need stronger clamps! Axel mountinkg is also ok, could you find a DIY to do that on your present rack?
