Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Finally reached my target weight

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi All, It's been a long time coming, but I finally hit 180 lbs. For me I had to change the word "diet" to "lifestyle". I have always rode bicycles, so while it's my preferred activity I was still able to gain 55 lbs. I'm sure the weight gain, which came about over a few years, would've been greater had I been a couch potato.
If I have a pearl of wisdom to pass along, perhaps it's just to take the weight off slowly and steadily.

WTG, that's my goal weight too. Can I ask how tall you are? I'm 6'1" and was at 248 in January, hoping to be 180 by around same time next January.

Well done. You're right about the diet/lifestyle thing. I wish I was stronger to turn away from emotional eating. Looking forward to the time change so I can ride during the week in the evenings. If I'm riding, I can't pig out, right?

I'm 6' even. Good luck to you.

Way to go, Brad! Slow and steady with a lifestyle change is definitely the way to go.
I feel like I am working the same story as you and youcoming -- 6-1, with a goal of 180. I started last January at 245, and I am at 196 right now. I am in no hurry to get to 180, either -- it'll come eventually if I keep up the riding and the appropriate diet.
Curious observation recently. I was set at 2040 calories/day using myfitnesspal. I was stuck at 200-202 for a couple of months. When I calculated my BMR, it was around 1850 per day, and the calculator I used recommended that I eat 2800 calories per day, rather than 2040. I'm not sure I can afford 2800 calories a day, but I did boost that number a bit, and the weight has begun dropping again.
Did you encounter any "plateaus" in your loss? And what did you do?

Yes, many periods of what I called "stability". Often, if I saw no reason, I just waited for these periods to run their course. I don't know better, but I think my body was adjusting itself, sometimes taking a couple of months or more.
