I was considering getting a set of cheap disk brakes and Ive known about floating disk brakes and how the supposedly help brake jack. Ive been trying to figure how they would help and if its really that big of deal. SO does anyone how they work?

I don't know the exact science on how they work, but with some brake designs, notably single pivots. When you brake, it puts out a force going backwards and down. This hence tries to make the wheel do that. When this happens your rear suspension effectively locks out, unless you hit a large shock which frees the suspension. A floating disc brake has a rod which transfers this down and back energy through a shaft into the main-frame and leaves the rear wheel free to move up and down through it's travel.

What he said. Most companies are going to this setup as a standard. Ironhorse and kona most notably (although by the pivot location kona had to build a special designed one)
