If you want to keep a chaindevice, look at the MRP LRP(Long Range Patrol) or the Blackspire Dewlie. These are two chaindevices designed for a double chainring setup. Also most basguards will be ok with a doublechainring setup anyway. If not you can tweak them a bit to fit.

I do the same sort of stuff as you, and I find that my 42tooth chainring is all I need, makes you big and strong. Especially with our big bikes :D

You live in bc. The climbs are long and very technical especially .. well...everywhere. Get the evil drs (make sure you get the big version to fit the 38t). Get a small ring (like a 22) and keep the 38 that came with it. Where are you in bc?

Hopper, I would love to see you pedal up something like whistler mountain on an a-line with a 42 tooth dh bike. You would be amongst the strongest riders I know of, and I do know WC xc guys too. (funky side note - record up to whistler top is 45 minutes set by tomac...for some reason this thread reminded me of that)

Smart ass...at least you still have summer. :)...

Bike would cost almost as much as you. BEsides you would fit right in over here. Would feel like home with some french people as extras :) That and you wouldn't even find it hot here haha
