Mountain Biking - 2nd chainring?
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

opinions on adding a secong chainring to a 2005 aline, im an agressive freerider and ride mostly downhill but i do have to ride up most the hills i ride down... and how bout bash guards instead of the truative chainguide?
If you want to keep a chaindevice, look at the MRP LRP(Long Range Patrol) or the Blackspire Dewlie. These are two chaindevices designed for a double chainring setup. Also most basguards will be ok with a doublechainring setup anyway. If not you can tweak them a bit to fit.
I do the same sort of stuff as you, and I find that my 42tooth chainring is all I need, makes you big and strong. Especially with our big bikes :D

You live in bc. The climbs are long and very technical especially .. well...everywhere. Get the evil drs (make sure you get the big version to fit the 38t). Get a small ring (like a 22) and keep the 38 that came with it. Where are you in bc?
Hopper, I would love to see you pedal up something like whistler mountain on an a-line with a 42 tooth dh bike. You would be amongst the strongest riders I know of, and I do know WC xc guys too. (funky side note - record up to whistler top is 45 minutes set by tomac...for some reason this thread reminded me of that)
Cool, you are on. I'll kick everyone's butt. Just one catch, you can pay to fly me over and accomadation for both me and my bike for about... 3months in summer

Smart ass...at least you still have summer. :)...
Bike would cost almost as much as you. BEsides you would fit right in over here. Would feel like home with some french people as extras :) That and you wouldn't even find it hot here haha
