Several people have mentioned that they sing while they ride (whether out loud or not) and I'm just curious to know what songs tend to get ridden to. :P

For some reason, when I ride I get this kid's song running through my head which we had on a record ages ago--Donkey, Donkey, Walk a Little Faster. ("Climb up the mountain, walk toward the sun, over the valley and the hills)

Nobody else's song can be that embarrassing, so out with it--what's yours? :D

Well, I personally don't sing on rides. I know a guy who sings opera on the local training ride that goes out twice a week, though. That's when he's in town, though, for racing. He's from Britain.

While riding the Ride the Rockies in 1999, my wife and I traded off riding while the other drove the car, I rode most of it, and she the rest. We were going up the Dolores River - a gorgeous area near Rico, Colorado, and she was riding her Specialized Hard Rock mtn bike whilst everyone passed her. There she was, singing at the top of her very lovely voice (she does professional singing) "America the Beautiful." All who passed complimented her on her singing, and also commented on the rather heavy bike she was riding!!

We got her a Cannondale road bike the next summer, but, due to complications from knee surgery, she has only ridden it a little. The doc recommended she stay on her mtn bike for a while, and she is just now starting to ride up to 25 miles on the Hard Rock. We will see about the Cannondale!!

In any event, she loves to sing and ride.

Most embarrassing song was the theme tune to 'The Monkeys'

Mostly show tunes. My wife has a pretty exentensive collection of musicals and some of the songs are pretty catchy.

My son just finished his first ever high school play. He had the part of Captain Von Trapp in the Sound of Music. I sing the song that refers to lonely goat herds. Now that's embarassing.

I do sometimes. Had the HUGE URGE to sing "This is My Country" while riding down MT State HW 464 on the eastern side of Glacier Nat'l Park. Hadn't sang that song since Jr. High School in Farmington, MI.

Funny thing...it wasn't my country. You see, HW 464 runs through the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. Oh well....

I sing while I ride. I can never be quite sure what will come out of my mouth. It might be "Rum and Coca Cola" by the Andrews Sisters, "Basket Case" by Green Day or anything in-between. As long as it keeps the pedals going around, it doesn't much matter to me. Those around me say they can't tell the difference by my singing anyway.

I'm one of those "last song heard" guys. But only in the beginning of rides. Later , I'm trying to figure how to get more air into what seems to be shrinking lungs. But the song remains on my mind adnauseum .

Just wonder why certain tunes pop into your head.
Unsure why one comes out from time to time. On a sunny day, when sprinting on the flats, I find myself singing "Girl from Impanima," (spelling?) Could understand while near the beach. I am more of a rock person myself. Often find myself singing Monkey's or Turtles. Don't we all like Queen's 'Ride my Bicycle.'
One of my cycling groups' members has that tune on his answering machine.
I often ride alone.

I've found that "Blister in the Sun" is a favorite of mine while downhill skiing or kayaking, but whilst biking I'd have to go with Elvis. It is amazing how fast you can get bipping along while belting out "Suspicious Minds"!

Chicago Critical Mass sometimes has live music on the monthly ride. A two person band, known as Twang Bang, performs on a trailer that is moved by 3 bikes. The trailer was originally designed to move an upright piano via bicycles, but then they put the trailer to new uses. The last time the Twang Bang performed, the riders and the perfomers were all dressed as Santa Claus, and the singer was singing King of the Road.

I have a fondness for singing Cole Porter songs on my bike. If it's a cold windy dreary day, singing on my bike perks up quickly.

Last night, the "pizza guy" passed me playing "Whip It" by Devo. It stuck with me for the remainder of the ride.

Did you have to post that? Now I've got Whip It going around in my head. It may takes days to knock it out of there.

Today I sang "Macarthur Park" at the top of my lungs as I rode home through the much-needed drenching downpour. "Someone left the cake out in the rain; I don't think that I can take it, 'cos it took so long to bake it, and I'll never have that recipe again... Oh nooooooooooo!"

If you can sing that at the top of your lungs while spinning up a hill in the pouring rain, be proud of your fitness. You'll need it to escape from the men in the white coats...

there's this hella grade on my morning commute that just begs me to find interesting ways to beat it. lately I've found myself singing this: it's by the guy who used to be the Blue's Clue's person, if you can believe it.

Troposphere - Steve Burns

Sit right next to me
Against the glass
Where we both can see

Focus on the ground
Disbelief
Where we used to be

What should I do now
Upside down
Fighting the gravity

I'll just lock the door
They won't know
How to find me

I could share it
You never saw it
Coming around

Even the bad parts
Move along
Better than they should

Now I'm waiting here
Disappear
Have you ever been so tired of yourself?

And I'll meet you here
In the troposphere
Lately I just haven't been myself
