Hey I want to buy a Giant Roam 1 hybrid bike since I heard it was a good bike for both on road and off road. I'd like to take long trips (preferably for a week) and so was thinking of buying some bike bags so I can go camping with the bike. Two questions...

Is it possible to even put a rear bike rack on the Roam 1? I was wondering because it has hydraulic disk breaks and I don't know if it makes a change or not...

Also, do you agree that this bike can be good for light off road driving aswell and works smoothly on paved roads?

Any suggestions, tips or experiences will be great :thumb:

I ordered this rack, Sunlite Gold Tec Disc Rack from Niagara Cycle Works. It was only $23 and rated for 50lbs. They have quite a few disc racks to choose from.

That bike should be fine for going off road.

The Giant Roam 1 would make a great light off road bike. Richard

i have a Topeak rack on a Gary Fisher Kaitai with disc brakes. At first i ordered the one that was designed to accomodate disc brakes - but didn't need it. The disc brake model sticks out a lot farther than a regular rack, which I didn't like. And since I didn't need it, I returned it and got the regular. So basically, not all disc brake bikes need the rack designed for them, it depends on how your rear disc brake is mounted. Try taking it to an LBS to see, I did that and then ordered on Amazon and isntalled it myself. BTW the Topeak MTX rack system is pretty awesome.
