I would never, ever, spend enormous amounts of money on a car. Nothing wrong with having an expensive car if the money is buying quality. But if the money is buying looks and coolness factor, I'm out. Even if I make the lottery, you will never see Rube on a 6 figure price tag on a car.

Since "car people" are always making clubs. I hereby declare the foundation of a new club for "not car crazy people", where only owners of regular car owners can enter. To apply, please reply to this thread expressing your dislike for fancy car ownership and list what car you currently drive.

I'll evaluate on a case by case basis and approve applications accordingly.

PS: All Hyundai owners will be admitted automatically, except those who installed wheels that are worth more than the car's blue book value.

Hard to say there Rube.

I own a 1983 Pontiac Bonneville wagon. I've put 50 miles on it in 7 years and 40 of those were driving it home from where I bought it.

However....

One of the best jobs I ever had was driving cars for an exotic auto auction, hopping from Corvette to Rolls to racecar. I grew up wanting to be a car designer, but coming of age during the Oil Embargo quashed those dreams.

So if I won the big one, I would probably get myself a nice fast vintage car. But I'm perfectly happy riding my bike and using public transit.

Lean your bike against your truck, but be careful so you don't scratch it. The bike that is.

Value: I'm trying to sell it and I'll feel guilty taking more than $2,000 for it. And I will not be replacing it! Just have no use for a car anymore.

btw, I stopped being a "car guy" sometime in the early 1980s when I realized that everything I knew about cars came from the "Visible V-8" plastic model I built in ~1969, and that none of that info was still current or applicable to real current cars. Fuel injector? wtf is that?

Don't currently own a car. Don't think I've ever owned a car less than 8 years old or with less than 120k miles on it. Not that fond of driving. Eh, whatever. My wife wants us to get a new (to us) car. Probably will at some point. If we ever won the lotto, I'd probably buy a subaru forester or a prius or something to make her happy.

Both the F150 and the Forester are admitted. However, 75k, even for both, seems a little high. Special permit could be issue if you commit to keep the past the 150k miles... the Forester specially.

Was a car guy when I was young, now I buy according to what we need and can afford. it all started when I had to sell my 1970 Camaro, 1980 TransAm, and the love of my life, my 1966 Malibu! :0( but all for good reason, my first daughter was born and we needed a safe affordable vehicle. :0)

No, no, no. You have it all wrong. The South Africans are uploading video to us. The videographers are down there, the editors are up here. Or they were supposed to upload it until we realized that they aren't as lucky as we are with respect to net access.

Awesome perhaps, but as she is currently the only one bringing home a paycheck (my unemployment is up in the air at the moment), we can't afford for her to pursue that avenue right now.

Car: 2006 (I think, I don't really remember) Huyndai Elantra
Condition: unwashed since I bought it last summer. It's survived a 4 wheel brake job that didn't involve a kitchen table, and replaced an earlier Elantra that didn't survive being submerged in 3 feet of water.
Value: went up today when the gas went to over $4/gallon here.

I used to be a car guy when I was younger, but came to view them as transportation appliances years ago after spending too much time in the automotive aftermarket. I got paid to drive other peoples fancy cars then and never got the urge to do more than that. My last 2 vacations have been more enjoyable due to going places and being car free while we were there, I really hate driving now.
