What are you supposed to get someone for an anniversary?

Which aniversary? First, Fiftieth or somewhere inbetween?

Roses are always nice.

Like gnome said, need to know which anniversary first. Then need to know a little about the person... I once gave some diamonds and got lectured for months about the African Wars.

Wine, or if you know the recipient likes a particular kind of drink, a nice bottle of that (Jameson 12, anyone?). The advantage of spirits over wine is it can be enjoyed over a longer period of time.

If you want to get a really, really nice Irish whiskey, the Midleton Very Rare is excellent. But at that price (I think more than $100) it might be worth saving for a particularly special occasion.

My 15 year anniversary is coming up in about a month and my wife bought me a Brooks saddle. Now I really have to start looking for something good for her

My wife & MIL got me a share of Green Bay Packers stock for my birthday. Like Hendricks97, I'll have to get something good for her birthday in April.

Our 10-year anniversary is coming up in June, and I have no idea what to get her.

There are tons of lists like this one (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wedding_anniversary#Celebration_and_gifts)online. If you can determine what year exactly that is always nice.

I'm wary of gifting alcohol unless you know the person well & know that they indulge. Gift certificates are always safe, if a bit impersonal.

If it's not your anniversary but you feel compelled to buy flowers, tulips generally make most people happy. I'd rather give/get tulips than most others.

Wine, but you need some idea of the person's tastes. Dessert wines aren't for everyone, and overly dry wines aren't for everyone. You might need to find a happy medium there with a Chardonnay or an Orvieto.

What the hell?! Do roses/flowers suck nuts these days? Does a gift have to be expensive and fancy for the reciever to like it? You know what? Never mind. :mad:

They don't really drink so, I'll have to go another route, good idea for the future. I was thinking a gift card to a nice restaurant but I don't know how much I should put on it or where it should be too. As for any sort of flower, I feel kind of weird since it isn't my anniversary and they die fast. I hate these things.

Roses aren't only given to the one you love, they are also given with love to whom ever you happen to care about, even just to say,"You made it! Way to go!". =0)

BTW, legend has it flowers only live as long as the love they were given with. ;0)

Yea but in this situation, I think it'd be weird. Haha that is why it is a legend. I meant in the sense of why waste money on flowers when you can get something that lasts longer or something that can be put to good use.

Art is a personal choice; everyone has different tastes.

If you're considering a restaurant gift card, look at their menu online and get a rough estimate of how much a dinner for two would cost. You can use that amount for the certificate.

Buy them a year long subscription to "The Jelly of The Month Club!" its the gift that keeps on givin'!

Nothing against flowers. But I live in a place where people drink too much, so a nice bottle of booze is the first thing that comes to mind, and is usually highly appreciated...

I think it is funny that Asians either can't drink because the smallest amount will get them trashed or they are basically alcoholics. I guess its nice to know which end of the stick I got haha.

:lol: Yeah... A good friend of mine here, a big guy, will pass out after about a single beer. He goes to lots of business dinners where he does his best to fake-drink and hope no one notices. Then on the other side, a taxi driver the other day asked me how many bottles of whisky I can drink. I had to explain that I don't really count my whisky intake by the bottle, and he sounded pretty disappointed :D

My mom will take a teaspoon or a tablespoon(i forgot) of liquor and will be drunk. I heard my brother is similar to that.
