Dude, its your fault you went to see the running man, death race, and that other ****ty movie you posted, what was that? spy kids part ******? most people knew they were going to be ****. Now The Hunger Games movie is based on a few decent books and I think it will be very good and maybe even great.

I'm just saying the movie concept is not original. The books were not original either, they are a rip-off of:

Wow Rube, did you even read Battle Royal? I ask this cause if you did you wouldn't be trying to make a connection between the two.

EDIT: My bad, your kinda right Rube, they are not exactly the same but similiar in a small way, but what good American movie isn't based on a great Asian movie! ;0) Doesn't change the fact that you watched those ****ty movies though. :D

Know what Rube, now that I think about it your right! but what good American movie is'nt based on a great Asian movie! ;0)

To be fair, I guess we'll have to wait and see the movie when it comes out. Sometimes American remake/adaptations really drop the ball like in "Dragonball". Sometimes they manage to be just as good like in "Let Me In", the remake of "Let The Right One In".

For now we can just compare trailer vs trailer:

AFAIK, the Battle Royale movie was not directly based on the book, but rather on the manga (comics) that were based on the books. But I haven't read the book neither the manga so take it with a grain of salt.

UPDATE: I watched Battle Royale. Yeah, the story and the concept is the same. It is very low budget, with really cheap special effects (if you can call them that). One big difference is that in Battle Royale, all kids are taken from the same school class. The entire class is thrown into the game. So you add elements of friends vs friends and a lot of people with crushes on their classmates. In fact, there are so many sub-stories that is really hard to keep track of who's in-love with who. I now have no doubt Hollywood can easily make a better version.

I guess if you want to go back far enough, you can argue that this whole genre is based on the Theseus and Minotaur legend of Crete.

Hi there, this is ilikebikes' daughter. :)
I have been a HUGE fan of Battle Royale since I was about 15 years old, having read the book and manga series. Not to mention, I watched the movie a zillion times. The creator of Battle Royale drew from deep, political feelings while writing the book. This translates intensely as you read. I'm not going to lie, watching the movie straight up without reading the book can leave you a little confuzzled and wanting more.
Currently, I am half way through the second book in The Hunger Games series. The ONLY thing these two series have in common is that people have to fight to the death. In The Hunger Games, you are in the 'lottery' starting at age 12, ending after you 21st year. And it is not a government secret like it is in Battle Royale, in fact its far from it! In the hungers games, its a fact of life. The fight is broadcast throughout the country.
Hollywood DID buy the rights to make an american Battle Royale, but it got so many complaints before the script was even written, that they cancled it all together. Instead, they made that movie (title I cannot remember) where a bunch of prison inmates are put on an island to fight to the death.
Anyway, like I said before, the only thing they have in common is the whole 'fight to the death' concept, which is a shared idea in about a zillion movies/books/comics.
From what I can see so far, The Hunger Games movie looks exactly how I pictured it in my mind as I read. I cannot wait to watch it!

ilikebikes daugther: Nice to meet you. :)

ilikebikes: very smart girl girl you raised there :) She's right on the spot. Watching Battle Royale without having read the book did leave me with many unanswered questions. I completely missed the fact that in Battle Royale the event was not broadcasted to the public... *HUGE* difference between Battle Royale and Hunger Games.
