Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am looking for a good hybrid bike where I can sit comfortable in an upright position. There are so many good bikes available that I don't know good and bad of the various options. I have been looking at the Trek 7300 and 7500, Fuji Sunfire 1 and Absolute 1, Specialized Sirrius Elite, and a Janis Coda. Are there other bikes I should be considering? I would like to say in the $500 range if possible. The Fuji Sunfire has hydraulic brakes. Are they any good and are the worth it? What type of equipment should I have. I am 59 and a recreational rider. I anticipate riding mostly paved road and some dirt trails.

If you are considering the Sirrus and Coda, might as well have a look at the Giant Escape, KHS Urban Xpress,... stay away from the suspended forks. And unless you plan on riding in wet/muddy conditions a lot, you really don't need disc brakes.

no1mad,
Why don't you recommend a suspension fork?

I recommend a 2011 Trek 7.2 FX. The 35 cm tires are decent, if you decide to venture into some dirt roads. Suspension forks makes the bike heavy. Which will slow you down a bit. I wouldn't get a bike with suspension forks, unless most of your rides are going to be off roads.
