Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - I am A Clyde, I EAT! (off topic)

OK, I have to be honest, 2 favorite restaraunts. Since the Red Chilli House added itself to my favorites list, it joins Los Jarritos in Pomona. One block Sout of Foothil on Garey, West side of the street. Man, this place is delicious! Best part of all, very reasonable and inexpensive. Tasty cranitas and the guys there are fabulously friendly.

Javier and his brother Carlos pretty much run the joint in the evening along with their mother Maria. Both great guys and willing to make the customers happy. I swear every time I go in, they hook me up with a HUGER burrito. Could just be my imagination but seems like the portions get bigger and bigger. My favorite is the combo carnita burrito enchilada style. Or the chicken enchilada plate with red sauce. Of course when I order this, nothing prepares the plate better than a sope with carnitas. Oh yeah, ask them to put the pico de gallo on it, great stuff! One thing I notice is that even in these tough times, the portions at this place have not decreased in size. Neither has the taste!


I know not many of you are of this area but this is what I do on my spare time ha ha!

If you get through Boulder City, Nevada, try 3 Sisters. My barber (John Mario's) went to high school with Carlos Santana in the Bay area. Carlos stops by the shop to shoot the breeze at the old school shop. He wears Hush Puppy slippers. Its funny.

If you try a dinner plate, try a Sope as an appetizer. Carnitas are Super tasty in a sope!:thumb:

Sounds cool! Sugar Shane Mosely frequents Los Jarritos. I met him shook his and talked with him for a bit. Talk about non clydes, he looks big on TV but in person, I could fit him in my shirt pocket.:D

Fresh made, in a variety of types (meat, meatless, dessert), all posted in available quantities each morning on a dry-erase board, and when they're gone for the day, they're gone. They also have incredible nachos. The place was featured on DD&D on Food TV. And best (or worst) of all, they're two doors from my office.

Sounds good! Like this place, the roll all their chile rellenos by hand, when they are gone they are gone.:D

This place is family owned. So when the clock hits 8pm (closing time) if people continue to come, they stick around and feed the people. Cool but on Sunday they serve menudo and breakfast then say see ya! :D I've forgotten, drove down for dinner on Sunday they closed at 2.

Last night I enjoyed some freaking delicious malai kofta with basmati, paneer pakoras and chai. It was heaven.

On the way to the restaurant, I stopped into a used book store. The lady who runs the place jumped up when I walked in, and said "I have something for you!" That isn't something you hear every day when you walk into a book store. She came back with a stack of books that were destined for the $0.50 rack, filled with recommendations for hiking and cycling trails. I found a ride at the edge of the foothills to do this weekend. :)

Pictures never do it justice. But maybe one day I'll bring my camera in to the restaurant. The ambiance is a big part of going there ... they make you feel like you're in 8th century India.

Ah! Never had Indian food but when we rolll by a joint, sure smells good. I like the spice smell. Doesn't seem to capture Gina's attention so we haven't tried it yet.

I did see a place featured on tv where they threw slabs of dough onto the inside walls of a fire pit type stove. Made flat bread type stuff. Food on the show looked real good and so do the pics you posted.:D

Same thing happened to us when we made our first visit to The Red Chili House Chinese joint. We had a little miscommunication on thephone while asking for directions. Gal didn't seem happy when we arrived, seems they made our food extra hot. Like they were all standing around laughing at us eating the hot stuff.

They were shocked when we returned, a second time, third time, now a fourth. Heck they even let me take their picture for my blog last time. We showed them, but it is great food!:thumb:

The name sounded familiar, so I plugged it into Google. The first search suggestion that popped up was "los jarritos sacramento". Sure enough, it's the place that I pass on Broadway all the time while riding my bike (http://www.yelp.com/biz/los-jarritos-mexican-food-sacramento).

I've never eaten there, so I have no idea how good the food is.

There is a sandwhich shop by the drag strip in Pomona (i think) havent been there in forever (I live in MN) but when I was working out there we ate there often and is still the best sandwhich I have ever had. And talk about huge, I like to eat, a lot, and could barely finish half

Mr. Beanz, I am a Clyde, and would be even if I get under 200. I too love to eat. Lets make that, LOVVVVEEEEEE to eat. I've eaten, many times at 4 of the 6 places in the Salt Lake City area shown on Diners, Drive ins and Dives. My favorite, is the "Red Iguana" and never fails to impress, I try something different everytime, but hate waiting when they are busy. Of the places we haven't tried, one place has always been too packed when we've gone (I hate crowds and refuse to wait more than 15 minutes for a seat) and the other is a bit more expensive than I prefer. That said, we do have a "fine Dining" establishment in my small town that is fantastic, and recently lowered some prices to attract more business.

I do try hard not to eat BAD all the time, recent bloodwork shows this to be accurate... And while I'm NOT losing weight currently, I'm not gaining either.

(the 4 places we've eaten, and eat at too frequently, Red Iguana (GREAT Mexican), Moochies (Great Phillie and meatball sandwiches), Lone Star Taqueria (good for fish tacos!), and Burger Bar in Roy, UT which has really good burgers, elk and buffalo and some really killer deep fried mushrooms. The 2 I haven't, Ruth's Diner is in a very popular location and ALWAYS packed, Pat's BBQ is always packed and pricier than I care to pay for BBQ, though, not outrageous.

Local fine dining is Sostanza, refurbished a fine old downtown building and has a lounge/bar as well.

Ridden by this place many times as well. Never ate there although I am a fan of burritos. Sigh, so much for eating lite these days.
