Just about a year ago, I had to get a very comprehensive physical for my motorcycle racing

I was 210 pounds , and they diagnosed me with high cholesterol
The doctor wanted me to start eating better. and get more exersize...That prompted me to start cycling again, which I started out just going for easy spins,,then I started commuting 32.5 miles each way to work. first once a week, then twice, and finally I got up to three times a week

Now my cholesterol is normal, and my weight is down from 210 to 168
BUT now I am not a Clydesdale any more......
Kinda bum's me out and now I am just another ungenetically gifted cyclist

Glad you made it. I have been working for a couple of years to get from the 310 (or so) down to ranging between 210-220 over the last several months. I figure when the warm weather comes for good, and I get healed up from a few nagging injuries that I should go under 2 by mid summer. I really don't mind the weight I am at, I just want to loose the gut.

Even 15 years ago when I was racing, and I was down to 145 lbs......I still felt like I had a gut
Now I don't cause I started working my abs
which I NEVER used to

Six foot and over is a Clydesdale.

We just had this discussion in another thread. The "Clydesdale" moniker started as a weight based division for running then cycling, so I'm not sure who started the 6ft+ stuff.

Maybe it's a rule for this forum so that more people can be included but that doesn't make sense because these are open forums where anyone can wherever they like.

My reason for questioning all of this is because I intend to race MTB a few times this year in the "clyde" division and just want to make sure that the standards for the class haven't changed and I'm going to be lined up with 6ft+ 150-160 pounders.

Congratulations on your weight loss! Keep it up, and good luck in your racing.

I frankly dont care if you are a clyde just based on weight or height or both. I am screwed both ways! :)

OK, let me try this one more time since you don't understand. You cannot be a clydesdale based on height. If so then the two gentlemen in the picture would be clydesdales. Can you see now how ridiculous it is to say that being over 6ft tall qualifies you as a clyde?

Yes you are screwed both ways, because you are Big and Tall. However, the first makes you a clyde. The other, well that just makes you tall.

I get what you are saying now. Thanks for clarifying it up.

Bumping this and joining the party, or just taking up Clydesdale Emeritus status; whichever it is.

I'm down from 5'7 247 lbs. (December 2010) to 195 lbs. and holding, mostly thanks to cycling and good eating/food logging. I'm working towards an end goal of 170, but boy, keeping at under 200 now for about 2 weeks straight has been such an achievement for me. It feels good. I've dropped 5 pant sizes, and and I'm already starting to wear some mediums (shorts and t's), after more than a decade wearing XLs for everything. Hell, the bike shorts I bought last summer when I started getting serious into cycling fall right off me now (awkward...). This forum's played a large part in keeping me motivated, informed, and focused and I'm not planning on going anywhere so that'll persist, thankfully. Anyhow, I'm done bragging, I'm just super excited about overcoming all the obstacles along the way.

I am 6'1""

I'm 6'-2" and got down to 168 back on 2005 (down from 240) with diet only; I wasn't biking then. That was actually losing too much weight for me. I purposely tried to put a little back on.... and eventually got all the way back up to 230. :( Still wrestling with the weight, but at least now that I'm riding I feel lot more fit, even with the extra pounds.

Six foot and over is a Clydesdale.

Yay! I'm a Clyde for life!

Congrats on the accomplishment!

Looking forward to hopefully making that goal myself this season. I think 40 miles of hills tomorrow morning should help, eh?

You're not bragging, you're motivating the rest of us. Thanks. ;)

Certainly sounds like part of the solution. I'm hoping to do something similar, if the rain/storms hold out, but this weekend doesn't have the best forecast here.

Congrats! I maxed out at 255 and freaked out. I have been trying to work myself out of clyde status since. Down to 222 at the moment, slow going. I did a lot of trading fat for muscle at first because of the bike riding. I stopped seeing progress on the scale after a while, but I could see it in my face.

Actually, a lot of us have noticed that. Lookin' good, bro.
