So I'm looking for some shorts to wear while mountain biking. I dont want anything that is skin tight. I would like something that is loose but still has the padding for the butt. Does something like this exist? If so who makes them?

Check out any online biking stores (jenson usa, chain reaction cycles, wheelworld, huck n' roll, etc) & look for "mountain biking shorts" (will probably be under apparel>short>mountain, or something to that nature). Make sure whatever you decide on has what is called a 'chamois', as this is the liner than has the padding to keep your butt from hurting so much after long rides. The chamois liner will be skin-tight...that's just a part of biking shorts...but the exterior will look just like a regular pair of shorts.

I just bought a pair of these:

I really like them.
I just wear lycra under normal shorts. Works great.
edit: right, you said something loose. So obviously you're going for feel as well as appearance. Personally I don't mind tight lycra. To each his own. But I know that specialty shorts are made with padding.

I wear a liner/bike shorts with chamois under mtb shorts. Works really well for me. I like specific biking outer shorts because of the seam placement, and material choice. I have to have something that dries fast when it gets wet.

endura, club ride, dakine, zoic, and some other brands make what you are looking for.

rei.com outlet section has good pricing but the size and selection may be picked over. blueskycycling.com, pricepoint.com, huckandroll.com all carry good shorts.
I also use spandex under a pair of cargo shorts most of the time. Costco has good cheap cargo shorts this time of year. Investing is a good spandex short with a quality pad is a smart buy, don't get too cheap there.
