Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - I just picked up a new bike from CL, and I have a question ...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

the owner (and possibly the manufacturer) has a tubeless tire on the rear. Its a Trek 4400, some kind of Scheel's special edition.
How do I air this up, or do I? Are they basically maintenance free? The front tire has a stem, but the rear does not. Ive never seen one of these before.
Thanks!
No idea. How did the previous owner do it?

I don't know, I didn't notice that the tire didnt have a valve stem until afterwards.
is it a solid rubber tire, or is it flat right now? if its flat the stem may have rotated into the tire in which case it will have to be dismounted and fixed.

its not flat, it feels fully inflated. The TREK site says this model originally came with a tire that was tubeless.

They have "airless" tires, which have some sort of solid rubber in them. They have "tubeless" tires which are inflated with air but do not use a tube, the tire seals against the rim like on a car tire. Sounds like you have the former?
If it's a normal rim and wheel, you can either run it like it is, or remove that tire and put a conventional tire and tube on it. There are advantages and disadvantages to airless tires, and most people either love 'em or hate 'em, regardless of whether they've actually used them.

Off topic - sorry bout this... @ Alathea
I was wondering when you plan to pay me for the shorts I sent you some 45 days ago? Your last PM to me (about 3+ weeks ago) staqted that you had lost my address, and would pay me as soon as I gave it to you again. Now you are not replying to my PMs, nor have you paid for the shorts that I sent to you in good faith (as you were not sure about sizing). This is a public request that you pay me as you agreed to do so some 25+ days ago.

Good luck, Peter. Not to cast any aspersions on the character of the OP in this thread, but I sent 3 pairs of bibs to another forum member at their request, and on promise of payment, last fall and haven't heard a peep since from him since the first of the year. Hope your buyer is better.

Dang! That's messed up. The nerve of him showing his cyber face in this forum. BTW...Some signature he has.

I waited a fair bit as you can see, hoping that there was just a simple problem, but since asking me for my address again, and promising payment, I have heard nothing, and have sent the buyer 2-3 other PMs with no reply in the last 3 weeks. I figured I would be a nice guy until/if/when I got burnt - I've sold around 10 items to members both here and on BROL, and this is the first issue I have had.
I would like to assume a problem of some kind, but with zero contact and 'losing' my address??? Well, I hope to be proven wrong, but I can really only assume that this person simply wanted the shorts for free, and is willing to lie to get them without paying for them - not only am I out for the shorts, but also for the shipping. I have not had an income since May 2010, and am going through the disability system, in other words, I can really use the money!!
If anyone knows this person, please ask them to pay me? The funds were to help pay for the gas to get to the GAP for my first tour in June. Am not sure I can go now, it's that tight...

That is just so wrong. If you can't trust a forum member...wow :-( I'm broke, but would never do that! This person had the chance to say bad fit, and send them back to me - no harm, no foul - but this buyer said he(?) liked them and payment was "on it's way"...bleh

You PM message notifications don't come to me, only your public postings. You should have gotten an email from USPS.com from my printing of a priority label that will go out tomorrow with your money for the shorts. I'm sorry for the hold up, but I just started a new job from being unemployed, too, and social email has not been my facet of focus as of late. I started my new job, and within a week the other guy in the dept. quite (having had his two weeks already in) because my predecessor sucked so bad, and just stopped showing up to work one day. Preoccupation-my fault, but assuming the worst is not that becoming either. 3 of my 4 kids assume any paper not tied down is usable for scrap or crafty things-thus the re-request for your address.

Might not be a great idea to make Peters address visible on a public forum ;)

Thank you for your reply. If you did not put me on "ignore", you should have gotten either 2 or 3 different PMs from me over the last 3 weeks, if not, you may wish to contact a MOD, or the board owner (Tom Stormcrowe) direct.
Sadly, if I had just gotten any kind of update, asking me to wait, I would happily have done so. But zero contact, combined with no payment, in my mind, tells me I have a problem. I do thank you for taking care of this, hopefully it will be resolved well for both of us. As of this writing, I have not recieved any notification.
As I was not given either your phone number, nor your email, I decided to try to reach by the only other methods I know of.
Thank you for removing my complete address from a public forum.

According to the USPS website, the above number hasn't moved yet? Am wondering if it made it to the post office?

I tried USPS tracking for the heck of it, and I see a delivery on May 11th. This reminds me of all the excuses I get from people with Craig's List sales. So many have family problems and cancel meeting at last minute; but oddly never try to reschedule.

Yeah, NOW it's scheduled... 3 days after he said he mailed it. :innocent:

Hey, it looks like it's moving now :) At the time I made my last post, it was only confirming it was a number, but no other info. KA-KA happens, but if I had promised to mail something someone had paid for over 3+ weeks ago, they'd want to kill me if I just mailed it yesterday... Oh well, hopefully it'll be done with tomorrow:)
USPS package tracking may not be COMPLETELY worthless, but you can see worthless from there. I have had packages delivered before they ever show in transit on their tracking system. Whenever I order anything online and it shipping says USPS I know there is very little chance the tracking is going to do me any good.

OK - I shipped the shorts out on Monday 03/26/2012.
Buyer PMed me stating he got the shorts and was sending me payment on Friday 03/30/2012.
Then Buyer PMed me asking for my address again, and promised payment on Saturday 04/14/2012.
Then nothing until after I posted on threads the buyer wrote on Sunday 05/06/2012.
Then Buyer replied to post some six hours later, stating payment would go out tomorrow via 'Priority mail' - 05/06/2012.
'Priority Mail finally arrived (with cash payment - thank you!) on Friday 05/11/2012.
Buyer may wish to make a claim as I *think* 'Priority Mail' is supposed to only take a certain amount of time, and four days seems rather long.
Yes, 46 days after sending off the shorts I did get paid. Truly, honest contact explaining the delay would have made me feel much better, instead of zero contact until after I made it public on the forum. But, I did finally get paid, in cash. Thank you for that.
