I am a beginner looking to do some intermediate trails this summer

I have been looking at 2 bikes, a 2011 Giant Revel 2 and a 2007 KHS Alite 1000 ( from a friend)

Which bike is better. I am concerned with getting a bike that is 5 years old

I had a Revel 2 last year. I liked it and it got me by on the local trails. I blew the fork after going on a trail I had no business being in. :D
