Here's a little humble pie segment I did in March - Red Rock near Vegas... I did the thing and had to stop once or twice, but I got up there. #425 out of 453 and I'm comfortable with that! :D
http://app.strava.com/activities/5265305#100315106
It's a lot easier for me to be "competitive" on shorter segments because I can just grit my teeth and go, but sustained climbing isn't my cup of tea just yet. Beanz would eat me for break fast on that GMR climb, which is why i'm avoiding him. :roflmao2:

I knew it! :D But honestly I am not in form so it would be close. But give me a month, you've inspired me to work on it. :D
Sustained consistent riding is my style. Even on a ride like around the Bear, 10,000 ft century. At the bottom, I am blown away by the riders. Teams flying by effortlessly. I start to think, "what the heck am I doing out here?". But 40 miles into the climb, I start passing them back one by one. I finsihed 123 out of the 400, not bad for a Clyde. But either way, I never sprint and rarely go full out on a ride, usually just consistent.
Being on the back end of Strava on a ride MR, I have no problem. Heck the guys are literally half my weight and being new to Stava, I had no ideo there was the competiton thing. Most my rides posted are at Gina's pace. Now that I know, I have to pick it up when I can or when I ride alone.
I climb really well at 220, and well at 230. But right now at 260? sheesh! I can get back into shape and move way up on the flatter rides but GMR rides, I'll move up a few spots but even at my best, these 130 lb guys are just too fast to be near the front.
I did notice though that on the MTB climbs, the shorter sections 1.5 miles I may finish a minute behind but further up along the climb, I finish ahead of them by 2 mintues. That's a good thing But there are far fewer riders on MTB's posting (my area anyway) :D
#425 out of 453 and I'm comfortable with that! http://app.strava.com/activities/5265305#100315106:
The thing about that is that you did it! Some of the rides I've been on, others won't even try if they have a disadvantage. Heck, I try knowing I will never be the first up GMR. But I know some good climbers that won't go ride with me in the wind.:D I think it's working against your advantages is what makes riders good riders. ;)

Fred, that wasn't meant to kick sand on your blanket or dispute your point that clydes can't finish high on the leaderboard.
So Mr B - now that your premium subscription ran out can you still sort leaderboards by club? I'm planning on hitting SART tomorrow morning early and I'm going to cherry pick some segments and see if I can take you down. Obviously I own 3 mile TT but you're ahead of me on some others for another 24 hours. :D
I guess my question is this - will you be able to see it? (Assuming I'm successful) Or do I need to start a post to um, motivate you? :roflmao2:

Doesn't run out till the 21st...but I think I wil be able to see the clyde club results but NOT the 200 lb/age category results.
Better go real early, tomorrow is the Sikad (organized ride) there will be riders all over the trail. Going to be crowded with large lines of riders.
I want to see how you do onteh:
south firestation to pch...you are 5 mintues behind
20 mile TT.........you are18 minutes behind
NBsart to warner....20 mintus behind
north riverbed bridge to bridge...you are 7 minutes behind
PCH River Trail to Glassell ....57 mintues behind...
yorba to coast and back/firestation to coast and back....that you haven't done.
The short 9 minute sections like the 3 mile TT don't really mean much. Wow, I'm 40 seconds behind during my warm up:D
Now if you do Yorba Park to the coast and back and beat my times, then I will shake your hand.:thumb:

I see you have preselected my segments for me, thanks! I've only done the part TO the beach once and I was riding with my new riding bud, so there's my excuse. That and I'm not terribly fast either, that's my other excuse.
We'll probably only do green river to that park past Angel Stadium and back, I think we're pedaling at 7 so we should miss those Sikad slackers.
Where's that 20 mile TT leg? I can't find it. I see a 10 mile TT and yo'ure 8 minutes up on that one. i probably had a busted pedal and could only use one leg. :D

OK, found PCH to Glassell - you can't tell but I took a detour into Costa Mesa. Strava doesn't seem to care, it just records the time you started and stopped. It also includes rest time in the total time, which is completely appropriate.

I am riding mostly in a neighborhood to stay out of traffic. Some of the ride is FIU campus. The traffic is bad around here so i avoid the main roads during the week. Haha i looked at the elevation and see what you mean. Its mostly flat with a couple of bridges but shouldn't change that much.

Check out this ride. This is Gina's data from a 41 mile ride. Compared to your best set on a 26 mile ride, you have her beat by 1 to 40 seconds on maybe 3 segements.
But she has you beat anywhere from 5 to 9 minutes on the more significant segments (while riding with a sprained ankle). :D
Once you can beat Gina, we'll have to get together for a side by side mano a mano race to the coast.:p

Taft to Lincoln - got you by a second (and I think that was you riding solo)
The Curves - got you by a second (again, Gina wasn't there)
My 3 mile TT- got you by 36 seconds, again from your April 15 ride sans Gina
Lincoln to Taft - oh dear, you & Gina are up by 15 seconds.
South Fire station to PCH, you're up quite a bit but I have'nt done that leg since January and that was about my first ride in 2 years. Ugh.
South Harbor climb - got you by 5 seconds, not sure how.
SART PCH to 1st bridge, Gina's got me by 33 seconds, same excuse as above
North riverbed bridge to bridge - I think I got mugged by some punks in there. :D
Maybe I can talk my lazy friends into going the whole way to the beach tomorrow and then we'll have some better times to compare, but I doubt it on account of their general laziness. That and my wife was scowling at me when I said I was going riding Saturday AND Sunday.
I saw that there are at least two other clydes who have ridden those segments, we should organize up a clydeathon one of these days. Put some burritos in the jersey pockets and go to town on SART. Until then, I'll be busy organizing up some new, credible excuses.

Strava is hurting the ego, i may go back to garmin connect.
yes it has been very windy lately but being at the bottom or middle of the pack for segments, eats at me a bit. yeah so i was almost blown over twice in the first 5 miles yesterday, but you would think the tailwind coming back would have had me in the top half of segments. Well nope!!! and i only set 1 yes 1 personal record with the tail wind.

It is both! If I'm going to keep to my training plan, I'll soon have to start ignoring some of the data on there. Specially segments. It doesn't always pay dividends to chase after little carrots, when there's a larger reward further down the road.
The other option is: Loos weight, get stronger and go FASTER!
Problem solved.

Brand seems to be a buying advertising on NBC sports,
they put the Liege Bastoigne RT race on the tele.
at least unlike Amgen its not a sponsor, tour of Cal, who produces a banned substance like EPO .
that the riders get busted for using.
Oh the Irony ..
TrojanHorse

First off, I'm having trouble interpreting your post because the wording is quite poor, but it sounds like you're insinuating that Amgen (a pharmaceutical developer) is sponsoring the Tour of California to promote illegal sales of epogen (which is the brand of epoitin alpha that they produce)
Here are the other manufacturers of similar Erythropoietin drugs:
epoetin alfa:
Epogen, made by Amgen
Eprex, made by Janssen-Cilag (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janssen-Cilag)
Epogin
Procrit
epoetin beta:
Recormon
NeoRecormon, made by Hoffmann–La Roche (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoffmann%E2%80%93La_Roche)
epoetin delta:
Dynepo
epoetin omega:
Epomax
epoetin zeta (biosimilar forms for epoetin apha):
Silapo (Stada)
Retacrit (Hospira)
Miscellaneous:
EPOTrust, made by Panacea Biotec Ltd
Erypro Safe, made by Biocon Ltd.
Repoitin, made by Serum Institute of India Limited (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Serum_Institute_of_India_Limited&action=edit&redlink=1)
Vintor, made by Emcure Pharmaceuticals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emcure_Pharmaceuticals)
Epofit, made by Intas pharma
Erykine, made by Intas Biopharmaceutica
Wepox, made by Wockhardt Biotech
Espogen, made by LG life sciences.
ReliPoietin, made by Reliance Life Sciences
Shanpoietin, made by Shantha Biotechnics Ltd
Zyrop, made by Cadila Healthcare Ltd.
Keep in mind that most of these drugs are developed to assist in the fight against cancer, particularly for anemic cancer patients. Exxon makes gas that is used to speed on the freeways too. Maybe you should go post little tirades against Shell also for sponsoring motor sports.

Actually, most of the time cyclists have been caught with generic EPO manufactured in India or China. The genuine Amgen product is too pricy if you don't have insurance help cover it.

Saw sheep, eagles, moose, caribou and a wolf that trotted across the road about 25' in front of us. There were three trucks that passed us (workers in the park) and that was ALL. We had the entire place to ourselves. Amazing. 247000

Doesn't that make them a "throw away" accolade? If they're given without cause beyond, I went out the door, at least in my mind it defeats their purpose.
I choose to give "kudos" when I see someone has done something of merit. PR's get my attention, specially on rides that they do on a regular basis. So does any noteworthy distance and/or climbing. I fully realize that for some Clydes, the act of getting on the bike and getting around the block may be an undertaking. However, unless I know their story, I'll save my "Kudo's" for the second time they've done it and have completed that ride around the block in less time than when they started.
I hereby begin the "Make meaningless internet 'kudos' worth something" campaign. :)

Here is my strava for my second Metric of the year..............
http://app.strava.com/rides/7208810
Ridden at a fairly mellow pace for me.....
And here is my first metric ever, ridden with a bit faster of a group.........
http://app.strava.com/rides/4512810
Both had their hard parts. My first one had very little climbing at 2000', but we had a 25+ mph headwind for about a 20 mile stretch of road.
My second one had some tough climbs.....such as.....
http://app.strava.com/rides/7208810#134950469
http://app.strava.com/rides/7208810#134950474
and the real killer.......
http://app.strava.com/rides/7208810#134950464
Total gain around 4200' over 64 miles.
Hoping for my first 100 mile ride soon. I'm almost ready.

I choose to give "kudos" when I see someone has done something of merit.
I guess we all got our opinions. I see it that all rides add up to something in one way or another. I'll tell ya that training for a century with 10,000-12,000 ft of climbing consists of several types of rides.
My 10 mile ez stretch warm relax the leg rides added just as much toward my goal as the 60 mile 7,000 ft gain training rides when it comes to training.
The day after a 10,000 ft climbing century, I did a 40 mile realaxed pace ride. If that was a sissy ride that meant nothing cause I didn't set any PR's......;)
If a ride around the block is like a 10,000 ft climb to the next clyde, then half way around the block is just as important.;)

I tried to add a comment on the Primavera Metric but clicking on comment did nothing so...
Average grade 12+% ?? Wow. That's some steep sh*& and a lot of it. That looks like a darned tough ride, so kudos, grats and...wow. I wouldn't want to live in such a busy area but I sure would enjoy the diversity of roads and highways to ride on. We have four highways to choose from and a few local roads to ride over and over and over. :)
