Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Vuelta Corsa HDs from Nashbar

Has anyone used these?

They seem to have positive reviews from buyers. They are on sale for $159. These could be a temporary fix for me. I'm currently on 24/20s (and 240lbs). With spring around the corner, I am looking to do some long rides and I don't want spoke problems. Especially since there is no cell service on some of those routes. I could get these and use them for the spring, then save my $$ and get a good wheelset this summer. These could become my winter wheels.

My two big concerns are the quality (you get what you pay for) and adding 450gs. Im not sure if I would notice the weight difference.

you will notice the weight but the durability will outweigh the extra weight. Have recommended these and most 200+ guys have been very happy with them.

lenny866, When in the middle of a long ride, durability is KING. Prior to installation it would be a good idea to have the wheels retensioned and retrued.

I just ordered them. They were $159 and Nashbar was giving an extra 20% if ordered 3/7/12.......so they cost me $128. I also ordered some new lighter tires and the difference in weight will be 330g. I know when your a Clyde, 330 is nothing.

I have a set I bought last year on my Bianchi and I love them. I can't tell any difference between them and the wheels I took off....wait, yes I can - the HD's are still true and straight after one(mostly unnecessary) truing check after a few hundred miles! Enjoy!

Just a follow up if anyone is interested. They came this week and tried them out this weekend. I had two rides for a total of 40 miles.

First ride was yesterday and I did notice the extra weight but it's not bad....just different. I spin 90+ and found myself in the high 80s. I took a regular route and know what my time should be. Interestingly my avg. speed was a little faster than my norm. My second ride was today and I hit some hills. It did not have a negative affect on the hills. Overall, I noticed the extra weight a lot less today, than yesterday. I did notice is on the downhills these things roll forever. I just kept going and going. At the end of the day, no real difference in my time or effort. The only real negative that I found is they are loud, when coasting.

The overall ride is good and now I am not worried about breaking spokes. I think the $128 was a well spent.

4/5 Follow up....hundreds of miles later, I am still happy with the purchase. The only noticable difference is when your are stopped and starting to go. I notice they accelerate slower. This was a great temporary solution. I do not feel a rush to buy upgraded wheels and I am not concerned with popping a spoke 25 miles from home. I can now save my $$ and get what I want.

My avg. speed is actually higher. The wheels can not take credit for that. I have worked hard with hills and intervals. The wheels certainly did not hold me back.
