See the picture:
Can anyone tell me anything about Marin Quake bikes, and this one specifically ??
All it says on it is "Marin Quake" with FS on the little oval.
Should I grab it, assuming it fits me & has no cracks ??

The front forks are seized.... and the price is about $40
Pass or no ?? Grab it or go ??
Looks like a hardtail to me. Well, ridged if the fork is seized. OP, do you have a link to specs for the bike? If it's got good components then it might be worth it if you can replace the fork. Depends on your budget. If you can afford a better/newer bike then I think that would be a better route.

It's a hardtail dating from the mid 90's, around 1996, from memory, in the UK they retailed for around £600-800, in otherwords, a mid range bike.
The design used the front end of the fully suspension bikes, with a rigid rear, can only remember seeing one, and they was in a bike shop
For the one pictured, the seatpost is the wrong way around and not supprised the forks have seized, as they were pretty bad BITD, and will be scrap now. The bike is also way too big for the current owner, as the seatpost is inserted far to far into the frame, which would give the rider no standover clearance.
For the componets, from what can be seen, it's got an LX RD, and Sugino (White Industrues branded) crank, the chainrings on these wern't too long lasting, it will be 8 speed, which could limit the spares avaliablity, looks to have riser bars and bar-ends, which just looks bad.
For being any good, if it fits, and you can live with 15 year old geometry (it won't ride as good as a new design bike), and it is very cheap, then why not, expect the ride to be noisy, as the box section will amplify the sound of any stone strikes.
edit - if the seller is only asking for $40, get it, just breaking it for the crank, FD, RD, cassette & shifters should get you way more than that on ebay / the retro scene.

Thanks for the replies, guys.
I have decided to pass on it and look for something that suits me better.

for $40 I would be all over that. Just looking at how it's set up you know it's been babied. Looks like an LX rear deraileur. That and the white brothers cranks are easily $40 in the secondary market.
