I'll be out of town for a week, I live in a 3rd floor apartment (my bike resides on my balcony). Should I leave it out in the winter weather (calgary) untouched for a week, or should I leave it in my cubicle at work? Safety isn't an issue one way or the other. Instead of snowing, freezing and thawing all week, it might be better to keep it at room temp all week.

Definitely. Bikes prefer being kept indoors - rust and perishing are much less of a problem if you do.
I'd leave it inside my apartment. Much safer than a cubicle.
Last year I left my bike outside when I was riding it to avoid the daily thaw cycle and it got stolen. It's a different bike this year even though I got the old one back, which is way too nice to leave outside. I've been putting it in the shower/tub each night to avoid a huge mess. You should clean it off before leaving, and probably at least lube the chain.

How could you bear to be apart?
If you leave it outside, it won't like you anymore.

i take mine to bed with me, and i love the feel of aluminun being pressed against my body and i just love the feel of the big long crank shaft. and sometimes when im really in the mood, i like to stick my, uhh... i mean.. you should bring it inside, because of rust and such.

my co-workers are probably wondering why i'm almost crying in my cube right now. thx for the laugh.
I think i will take the suggestions here and bring it in the apartment. will have to dig out the camping tarp first to save the rug.

Would you leave your cat or dog outside on the balcony for a week in that cold Calgary climate?
Even in 'warm' Arizona the bike gets put inside . . . avoid those UV rays!
