Tandem Cycling - Adams Trail a Bike

I am almost finished the Schwinn Duo Sport and wanted to be able to use our Trail a Bike to take our son along with us on our tandem rides but my wifes saddle won't raise high enough to use the Adams hitch. Has anyone ever seen a alternative hitch setup for Adams?.........maybe something along the lines of the Burley Piccolo and the hitch it uses? I told my wife I need to put her on the rack to stretch her out and lengthen her legs............I got that look you get when you aren't so funny.

Burley now makes the Piccolo again (and the single speed kazoo). I once tried a schwinn halfbike and hated it. Too much flex / leaning and when it does lean, boy does that affect your steering (my 3-4 yo son at the time didn't know how to ride a bike / nor get "balance" etc. He would just hang on for dear life, so to speak. If the half bike leaned to one side or the other he would just go with it - ie he wouldn't try to correct it). The Burley works MUCH better so actually gets used. Should have some resale value once kids outgrow it, too. You get what you pay for. That said, I haven't tried the Trail a Bike, so can't personally comment on it.

Only one real solution for the DuoSport:
Sell the Adams, buy a Burley Piccolo (used or new) and the Burley special rack.
Yes, the Burley tracks better than any other tag-along; no fear of clipping a curb when turning.

I used to have an Adams but upgraded to Burley. For the Adams I had a machine shop make a bracket that bolts securely to a regular rack and allows an Adams TAB to be used. I still have the bracket and would be willing to sell it for $20 if you are interested. It is a one of a kind solution, but very sturdy and machined of solid aluminum. Must have a solid rack to bolt it too. Send me a private message if you are interested..

The bracket makes the attachment point for the TAB right over the rear wheel so it brings an improvement to ride quality and tracking. Not to be as good as the Burley but much better than stock TAB from Adams.

Timm40 - How did the bracket work out?

I meant to take a pic of it today and send it to you.......The wire rope clamps worked perfect and it seems very stout. I have yet to try it. I'm waiting on two straps I ordered to reinforce the attachment to the seat stays to give it more horizontal support. I will get a pic up here tomorrow .............Thanks again to everyones input and suggestions.

Didn't work for us........there exist to much play in the Adams hitch to begin with and the movements my son makes is amplfied 1000% up front. My wife and I have decided to sell the tandem......she doesn't think she will adjust and actually I find the frame geometry a bit cramp on this bike......tall seat tube...short top tube.
