BMX - Best way to rehydrate while riding

What's the best way to drink from a water bottle without having to remove the helmet????

not wearing a full face, or just pulling it down..

This is a Bell DH BMX X-GAMES. I've ordered this helmet and it looks like assembles by the ear. So is the jaw part optional on this sort of helmet?

why not take it off and drink? or, use a camelback type thing? what type of riding are you doing?

The only thing that's coming off of that helmet is going to be the visor; it's a one-piece shell.

If you want to drink, take the helmet off. It's not like it'll take you more than a second or two to unbuckle it.

Not a BMXr at all...just think the helmet makes sense for my type of riding .... Actually I ride various steep decents on the E. side at a good clip (around 35mph or more). Will also use this helmet for wind/ car noise proofing to ride along 520 hwy trail. Bunny Hopping a curb or 2

Already carrying a backpack...and I go through a 20oz bottle per 2 hour...maybe some sort of straw that retracts into the water bottle would work...instead of more weight on the back (water in a camel back).

Even if you don't ride bmx - the first rule of riding anything is NOT purchasing anything that carries the following words on it: X-Games or eXtreme - or worse: X-treme!

Just use a straw.

I need the functionality, not the hassle of appearing like a wanna-be. Any recommendations on a helmet that will give the same DH crash proection, better ventilation and sound proofing???

I ride a full face like that. I squirt water in from the side, over the mouthguard. Or you can just use a hydration pack and suck on the tube.

I took a second look at the OP.

vr, you should have known better than to post here among juveniles...

Look at the Formula One/CART drivers. They have a hole drilled through the centre of the chinpiece of the helmet. Lead a tube from your camelback (or fashion a "docking device" for your bidon) through the hole and close (very close) to your mouth. Works for them in really extreme conditions; may work for you. You may have to experiment with the tubing.

Otherwise, tubing up and under the chin-piece (or over the visor opening) and gaffer/duct taped close to your mouth.

And before some prebuscent person pipes up, I think the invasion of the carbon-fibre-glass of the chin piece with a simply drill hole (and through the lining) won't interfere with the integrity of the helmet's protective factor. I'm not qualified to give this advice, but as with all unqualified advice, that shouldn't worry you.

And, while I know the sorts of challenges vrkelly is facing with this question (as in winter riding), is a full-face helmet the solution or more of a problem?

Ha ha! I said my stuff + they know my (low) rank. Unlike the foggies/rents they'll at least consider rad ideas. Look the BMX/DH gives me heat, sound protection and that down hill thing. That helmet was $15 on E-bay and my drill's wait'n.

This keeps up, I'll dump the 5200 for a real bike! :D

i use a camelback when i'm doing fitness training on hills and long distance endurance training. i do these things on my bmx, and the result? i got the strongest legs in town(proven)

Ever stood by a busy highway for any length of time? The bike trail runs along side a 60mph highway. During rush hour, the noise is deafening. The plugs with balclavia help but do not stay in place over the course of several miles.

When that helmet arrives, I'll repost results.

lets see riding outside in the summer when its 80 degrees+ all day, riding ramps, adrenaline flowing, pedaling as hard as u can. jee i wonder y bmxers need rehydrating

how tough could mountain biking be? i mean mountain bikers have the luxury of being able to switch gears while going up hills or when there getting tired. bmxers can't.

It's runs along the N. side of the highway and joins up at various mountain bike and street trails.
You can get a map for this trail and others from the cascade.org. Many of the mt bike trails are hidden tho

it's funny to hear people talk smack about something they don't know anything about....
mtn. biking can be easy and relaxing or it can be a calorie burning experience.

I think only you can make that decision. if the helmet fits without it, is snug on your head then maybe not. if you don't go around bashing your head onto the ground then probably not.

I've seen guys helmets fly off on a bad crash before they even hit the ground.

In frosty weather like this, I do wipe out ... about 1X year. Hit my head several times on pavement and my helmets worok hard. Helmet fits suggly ... but maybe the strap is a good idea.
