Great Lakes - Your fave bike shops in/around Detroit?
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'll be visiting Detroit on the 24th and while I'm there I'd like to visit the better bike shops and look for a folding commuter. Which are your favorite stores?
Not a whole lot of experience with shops around Detroit. In fact, I've only been to one. Once.
They sold me a bike.
So I guess that means they're either really good or really bad depending on your perspective.
It was Continental: http://continentalbikeshop.com/

Continental is very good, a struggling high-end store with a lot of history.
Kinetic Systems out in Clarkston is very good, as are Great Lakes Cycle and Fitness and Two-Wheel Tango, both in Ann Arbor, and Ypsilanti Cycles in Ypsilanti, MI.
All will sell you a bike, if that's what you want. Ann Arbor shops have a lot of commuter business. This includes the Ypsi shop.
And on the surprisingly good side, check out an REI store if you haven't done so.

Try Cycletherapy in Waterford (http://ctbicycles.com). They once delivered a bike, from out of state to my house on my sons birthday (and stopped and bought him a card and a red bow!). Aside from above and beyond customer service, they also are extremely knowledgeable and will spend time with you discussing the best bike for your riding needs.
Addition to Cycletherapy, try Kinetic Systems in Clarkston (http://kineticsystemsbicycles.com (http://kineticsystemsbicycles.com/)). Again, very knowledgeable and will spend time with you to find a bike for your needs.
