Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - Vintage race bikes G and G are worth: X?

I have 2 vintage race bikes that I would like to know the value. I've found them in a garbage pile.
Here's the Gianella Special to start.

It's a light bike. I have no idea what year it is tho. My guess is 1990's. There's some rust on the chromed fork but it's surface and should clean up quite well. I have the identical rear tire for it but it's off because I borrowed the tube to put on my Mielle Alba LX.


The other one is a Guerciotti. Very light bike. I like it a lot.

It's equipped with a Shimano 105 gruppo.

Don't know about the total value if either bike but the gianella also has modolo kronos brake levers which can fetch a pretty penny on eBay.

Sorta. They were in the pile of bikes at the recycling center. Which are sent to the metal recycler after some time.

The Super Record rear derailleur on the 1st bike is very nice and better than the rest of the drivetrain. Any frame decals.

Those aluminum Geurciottis were real popular when I was at U of Central Florida in the mid80s. They were imported by a Melbourne (Fla) company called 10 Speed Drive. Nice bike and collectible but not real collectible.

The Gianella is interesting but I think the SR derailleur was added later as it is above the rest of the drivetrain and the geometry of the bike doesn't look like a racer to me.

Thanks for your input Walter. Do you happen to know what they could be worth? Just for the fun of knowing what some good for garbage bikes (for some) are worth. :)

You'd get an easy $400 for the Guerciotti here in Toronto, maybe more. You wouldn't even have to do anything, just raise the seat a bit and take some nice photos.

I would say that the Gianella would get $300 with a bit of elbow great and some new rubber.

Determining Vintage Bicycle Value (http://www.mytenspeeds.com/My_TenSpeeds_1/FREE_SITE_VALUE/VALUE_1_Start.htm) is a very tricky business and usually impossible to do. There are a host of reasons for this. Things like bike size, time of year, location of the market and even your marketing skills will impact final value.

Both bicycles are worthy steeds and worth a considerable amount, in my book. Actual value? I will not venture a guess. I will suggest that you look up completed auctions on Ebay and see if the bikes you have have sold there and for how much. Look also to see what the components on the bicycles have sold for.

Armed with that information, you will have a better idea of value.

In a nut shell, you probably picked up between $1000 and $1500 worth of stuff, if you know how to prepare and sell it. Nice going.
