Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - help with wheel!

hi, i am working on my first fixed gear bike and i recently bought an 700cc AlexRim DV15 with Forumula hubs (flip flop hub) wheelset from benscycles.com. I have read about a fixed gear cog and then something that sounds like a single speed gear with a lockring and i'm not exactly sure what it is that i need to buy to make this rear wheel fixed gear. on one of the flip flop sides there are two different sized threadings so i was also wondering if one side was better for a fixed gear than the other. any help would be appreciated! thanks!

Another thing you may want to consider is contacting Bensbikes, where you bought the wheelset. They are a full service bike shop, not just internet sales. Have them hook you up w/ what ya need and answer your questions.
I fear that we are becoming too dependent on the internet to satisfy our need for immediate gratification, meaning that we end up buying stuff before having all the info we need.I think that it is particularly important to know certain things about our fixies before we take 'em out on the street. How many people are riding around not knowing basic things about their drivetrain, even though their lives may depend on the quality and correct installation of said parts?

i agree with you. I am moving very soon and i will be throwing myself into a situation where i have no money so i can go to school fulltime so i decided to get all of my bike expenses out of the way, which happens to include having a new fixed gear. i am putting it all together myself so i will learn about the mechanics of this setup and i will definitely practice riding it before i jump in traffic.

p.s. i agree with the internet thing as well but i live in st. pete, florida and there are basically no other fix gear riders to ask. it doesn't seem like the local bike shops even know much about fixed gears. thanks for the response!

on one of the flip flop sides there are two different sized threadings...

that side is threaded for a fixed gear cog and reverse thread lockring. the cog threads onto the larger part, the lockring threads onto the smaller part. the other side is the frewheel side. basic knowledge.
