Fifty Plus (50+) - Anyone else with a March sunburn from over the weekend?

I'm normally wearing multiple layers in March. Getting a mild sunburn from cycling was not expected. Anyone else?

Fortunately, I used sun block on Saturday and Sunday, but I'm obviously out of practice and will have to refine my skills for application.

I've been skiing or riding the bike all winter so I still have some of that owl look about the eyes and color on the cheeks. I'm am looking forward though to that razor sharp tan line on the legs from bike shorts. It is now seriously Springlike around here - into the 70s today.

Not much of a winter here in Florida. It' been pretty much an extension of summer with only a few days where we needed long sleeve jerseys or riding pants. My avatar photo was taken on one of those days in mid November.

I usually don't apply sunblock to my legs, as when I ride an upright I never have problems with them.

It's different on a bent. I'm glad I wore knee protectors on Saturday, because there's a big red patch on both legs.

I always apply sunscreen to my face, even in winter.

What, whaaa, what? You mean the sun actually shines in March? No way, everyone knows that the sun does not shine until June at the earliest...

Got a double dose today. First I went out to the sports fields to do some RC flying this morning. Came home for an early lunch and went for a ride. There are still no leaves on the trees here so no shade on the trail.

The last day to enhance my winter tan. It's March and I have a watch "tan line" :eek:

That's not in the Southern part of the country, that's in southern New England.

Not me. I slathered up pretty well with sunscreen before and during my ride Saturday and before yard work Sunday. But one of my fellow folically challenged friends forgot to wear a helmet liner and got the dreaded Clingon helmet burn. :eek:

Was out on the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail on the 3rd of March for a 40+ mile ride with my pal Bill, took off my long sleeved jersey had a sleeveless compression shirt on under it, got burnt on both shoulders. Was out Saturday the 17th for a 50+ mile ride to Lakeport and back, and the back of my neck got burnt. I'm going to need to put some sunblock on from now on....too old for this sunburn thing.

Awesome riding weather wasn't it! I didn't even think about burning but wore a cap out of habit, fortunately for my bald spots.

Ski slopes were hot and sunny last weekend. Got a bit of new snow last night - it softened up the chrunchies this AM. Sort of riding on pavement with gravel.

Got a little bit of the red neck thing after 27 mi. on Sat. and 37 mi. on Sun. Not bad though.

Boating Saturday and an MtB race on Sunday means Winter sunburn on Monday....and a real smile for sure.

I've gotten several real nice sunny days in already but that's not unusual for me as I live in the Arizona desert, and have very pronounced tan lines.

All I've got so far this spring is rust steaks. :(

Fortunately where I bike there is a lot of shade. I don't bike in full sun very long, probably no more than 2 minutes at worst--if I did bike a lot in the sun, I'd bother with sun screen.

I don't remember a nicer stretch of March weather in my 59 years. I rode Sat., Sun. and today without sunscreen, the wife says my face is a little red but not much. No rain around here until maybe Friday with temps in the low 80's and mid 70's, I'm in paradise.

Ah, so that's why my forearms are all pink, and sensitive...

these guys speaking of sunburn are hilarious. the sun is so low in the sky here in the Pacific Northwest (if you could ever see it) you couldn't get a burn if you were on a boat all day with no shirt and no sunscreen. last year, it was late August. I was out of town for the one warm sunny week we had.

Got a start on the legs (they almost never need sunscreen).

What was surprising was the half inch between my watch and gloves. Looks like the gloves rubbed sunscreen off, so I've got a pink band.

Yes, a bit. It shows more on my arms than legs. Especially upper arms as the jersey I wore is a little shorter in the sleeves than the regular shirts I wear at work.

That's me also. I've gotten my maximum lifetime allotment of sun.

Applied plenty of sunscreen but still got a little tan...but I was in Death Valley.
